Tell the players to tank and spank stuff and everyone "knows" what to do.
Take the tank and spank away and everyone looses their minds!

It's easy to post that the trial cakewalk on the forums, but trying to Duty Finder this trial was hell. I eventually cleared, but I can't blaim people for paying for it. No one wants to come home from work, boot up FFXIV and proceed to get even more stressed over Duty Finder groups not using the Dragon Killer correctly, or not using cannons, or not killing/stunning the turtle, or tanks refusing to aggro adds, etc.
Well, if people are willing to pay... so be it. I don't find it absurd. I mean, we've created a 50+pages long thread discussing about its difficulty (Where people mostly disagreed). If you take in consideration that most of the people, without a clear, will shout either how hard it is or how hard it is to actually find a group to clear it. I found myself in a situation where I was about to pay for Titan Ex back then just to have the chance to play with a competent group...
^ that right there. I'd say it's the same people who also mindlessly click through all the convos and skip all the CSs, but that probably would be another generalisationbut yeah. The way (and number of) people who really don't pay attention to NPCs and system messages and the like, and then stand there confused/angry, asking things that are answered without the need for questions (or just ragequit)... is really stupefying. :/
Been encountering alot of players in PF that doesnt even know how comboes work in this game, they just press their skills in random order. Hate to say but maybe SE should add a (unskippable)tutorial that teach what those glowing edges in hotbar means, as it seems many players doesnt even read tooltips on their skills at all.
Seems like every strategy I've read on this forum so far has been horrible. No wonder people are having so much trouble clearing it.
Since this is the first one I'm actually replying to, I'll respond to your strategy specifically:
Tank and Healer on cannons is a HORRIBLE idea.
When I cleared this instance, the boss fell before we even reached the exploding barrels. And I did it in Duty Finder queued solo.
Went in blind day 1 in DF, one person had watched a vid and explained the fight (man cannons, focus boss, cannon adds, somebody shoot off that dragonkiller missile, rinse and repeat), another said their friends/FC mates beat it by having one tank and one healer man the cannons, but otherwise we were all fresh noobs to the fight. we had some mis-communication and failed by 3% first try because of a snafu with snares/dragon killer and too many deaths near the end, but second try we aced it no problem even with a few deaths. Activate brain-cells, and team work by all of 2 minutes of communication before going ham in the fight, and blam, you'll get the win, even if it starts to get crazy near the end.
People just need to use some social skills (and use their brains for more than "press this button") and this fight is easy as pie. Then again, people need to start using their brains more in general from what I've seen in real life. =/
Pro DPS tactic: Big glowing orange AOE = "Stand here to boost your DPS!"
~Non Requiem Aeternum~
The only prblm I had in this Trial was that despite telling people to DPS the boss and mostly ignore the adds while one of the tanks would lead the adds to cannon's range so people manning those cannons could dispatch them they would still dps the adds instead of dpsing the boss so in most cases the boss would have too much HP at the end to be able to finish it before the last arch would be broken. All of this to say that the Trial itself isn't hard it's players not listening and not using their brain a little which are a prblm. This Trial doesn't require any advanced kind of skill or logistic to complete that buying a run would be required even to people playing only a little bit each week...
You only need one tank to pick up the adds, and the damage output on the party/tank is minimal. Two tanks/healers is completely superfluous. Might as well put them to use on cannons.
