It isn't this bad in any other MMO with the /tell spam really. SE is not helpless to combat this problem. Plenty of suggestions have been made, all of which they ignore.

I'm tired of it...... I'm tired of accidentally ignoring my friend's tells because the other 70 percent of the time it's a spammer. I'm tired of trying read what friends are telling me but am being bombarded by spammers that won't stop...... I want to be able to receive tell's without the worry that is a spammer, and especially for the friends who need my help in the game. I'm tired of trying to contact my friends who make it harder cause they set themselves to "busy" online status cause the spammers are unrelenting.
You are not alone my friend. This is quite a widespread aggravation among the players. What frustrates me is SE doesn't seem to give a gil about our suffering in this area.I'm tired of it...... It would be great to see some response from the community team, and hopefully from Yoshi-P as well in the next letter from the producer (there are a lot of "what about the awful spam problem?" posts in the official question submission thread.)
I heard last time they got asked an RMT question they legit ignored it.

One day SE is going to have to put this RMT on the very forefront of their list, and I think that day is when Heavensward comes out, when that day comes the servers are going to be overrun by RMT's, and gamers, but so many RMT's that in all likelihood the servers will collapse and the network as well. When that happens SE is gonna have a real issue, with losing real customers and restoring the servers. SE won't lose me as a customer but there are lots of people who will get fed up. Things will completely fall apart and they're gonna know why.
That's exactly why I have created my petition. I fear what will occur when Heavensward hits the shelves and new players flood in. Sure, I'm frustrated with it myself. However, I desperately want SE to heed this warning, as new players WILL be turned off by the constant RMT spam, 100%. Because of this, they will stop playing, not realizing the good game they will be missing by doing so. To me this is a no brainer. They can increase their profit and success with Heavensward by taking care of this RMT problem. I really hope they understand this fact. One day SE is going to have to put this RMT on the very forefront of their list, and I think that day is when Heavensward comes out, when that day comes the servers are going to be overrun by RMT's, and gamers, but so many RMT's that in all likelihood the servers will collapse and the network as well. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember the line being that they didn't want to leak plans causing the rmts to respond and prepare in advance.
But people are losing confidence that the situation is under control, they must " rebuild lost trust", as it were.
Well it has been nearly two years now, and the RMTs have actually gained strength as opposed to losing it. It is understandable that people have lost faith in SE's ability to deal with this problem.
