You have to be level 20 and clear Ifrit story to ride a chocobo.
You have to be level 30 and have the appropriate secondary class to unlock any job.
You have to complete 2.55 story to enter 3.0 content.

    It's called progression.

World of Warcraft, when Death Knight was released, you must play through a different character to level 55. Then you get to start a new character as Death Knight at level 55. At that time the level cap was level 80, and the player had to level the Death Knight through level 55-70 content that was release in a previous expansion.

FF14, when the new jobs are released, you must play through the same character to level 30 and you get to unlock the new jobs. Then you get to play that new job on the same character. At this time, the level cap would be 60.

None of the new jobs start at level 1.

Heavensward new jobs fit your description of that every other MMO. You also don't have to get to level cap to play the new jobs. What are you complaining about?

    1. No need of GC Chocobo, at a certain level you will obtain a land/flying mount (as per 3.0 scenario).
    2. New jobs don't follow the (main class/sub-class), they are your ONLY choices as Tank, DPS, or Healer.
    3. Not really, New players will start a fresh adventure in Ishgard, but they won't be able to access the ARR content.

    lol, what?

It's already been stated you have to clear the last mission of 2.55 to access the new expansion content/storyline. Thus, you need to have completed the ARR content. >.>

    1. At a certain level, in ishgard, most likely after a quest chain. Your point is?
    2. I won't bother you because of the syntax error but you still have to realise that Zfz was listing the examples of gating already in the game. And all the jobs now need to be unlocked anyway by leveling 2 other classes.
    3. Ehhmmmm. Where did you get this? NOt only does it go against what we know about the plot, but makes no sense whatsoever because (1. the new jobs wont start at level 1, 2. the story is direct continuation of 2.55 and not a fresh adventure, 3. Heavensward is not a standalone expansion that you can play withouth ARR content)

There are also more unlocks within story progression

you have to finish Stone Vigil storyquest to unlock beastmen quests.
You also have to finish the Ultima Weapon storyquest to unlock the lv 50 dungeons, except Wanderer Palace and Amdapor Keep. To unlock Amdapor Keep you have to finish the GC missions (clear Aurum Vale).
And you have to defeat Ifrit, Titan and Garuda storymode to get their Egis as a summoner.

    ridiculous.
Already now in 2.x you can't do everything if you don't do the storyquests. It is nothing new.
