OP you're complaining about the wrong issue here.. the system in place is fine in my opinion, they're never going to punish somebody for disconnecting and they shouldn't, but you experienced a bug that caused your party to stay in combat. That bug literally doesn't effect anything else and generally if somebody disconnected you can kick them out in a timely fashion as long as people don't open a loot chest or start combat again.

So, my issue with this post is just punishing those purposeful DC --->kick players. There is no way to tell whether or not it was done on purpose, but I can say I've been disconnected for over an hour, unable to log in, but I have also been frustrated enough at lag that onCE I d/c, I didn't even try to log back in. Due to the bug, it's possible he didn't rage quit, just couldn't log back in.

I was once in garuda ex as whm to farm some pony and df put me into a training party. We were wiping during the whole first hour (because most ppl were new and not following strats even I told them what to do) and the 2nd time I met again 5 of them. The 2nd run went smoother (tho still wipes) until my ps3 suddenly froze right after I topped the whole party up using medica2 in phase3. I tried relog-in asap and found I was kicked... HOW could they do this to a healer who patiently wiped with them for 1 hour and a half and just topped everyone to 100%... heartbroken TT^TT

This happened to me once, tho I thought it might be my internet supplier who was not letting me to... all pc/ps3/ipad/iphone wifi connection dropped and was not able to inform other fc members in the party. Got network back the 2nd morning.

    So, outright confession.

One: I'm gonna abandon WoD on my DRG after the first fight because that's where the loot I need is. Why? Because I tanked, and tanked, and tanked this place since it launched, dealing with absolutely ridiculous queues and general DF-group drama, and only got the chestpiece from Cloud of Darkness the week before this patch hit. I've done my time and racked up the good karma and dropping a DPS doesn't really hurt progress.

Two: But I ain't gonna disconnect and fish for a vote-kick and I'll take my 30 minute timeout in fairness, because that's just annoying.

There's really very little that can be done about this as long as getting kicked doesn't cause a penalty. And we can't put a penalty on getting vote-kicked because it will be used to troll people. You know those kind of people exist.

If we have a very penalizing system towards abandons, all those people who abandon are going to do is to just auto-follow and do nothing, maybe even troll the content by pulling bosses early and locking out everyone, or use the teleports or some other mechanic to spam everyone's chat log. They will keep doing this until you vote kick them---and they get their abandon without penalty.

This is what happens in an society without police. Yes, GMs are not police, they do not fulfill that role. They are equivalent to prosecutors in the real world. Imagine a real world with no police, only prosecutors. You will get the same chaos with gangsters and thugs getting their ways.

FF14, like most other MMORPG, can't afford the manpower to create an effective policing mechanism. So we just have to take what we get. Eventually if it gets so bad people quit the game, then it may be worth the cost to put in more manpower in policing.
