Specifically with regards to interacting with gimmicks in a fight, the main scenario already does that, starting with CM and the Magiteck ride, way back in 2.0. Then in Leviathan there's the shield. Stone Vigil (Hard) makes you interact with cannons. After that the Keeper of the Lake also provide you with an activated shield.

Interacting with gimmicks should not be new to someone who is even able to enter this trial.
With maybe the exception of Vigil HM, guess which people generally don't get to bother with such things anymore because nobody ever slows the hell down and actually lets them learn how to use them?
