Hiding for reasons and 10char

So basically, the whole sordid affair is being kept under wraps. Well, I suppose that makes sense. The Monetarists are all about money. If it got out, there'd be civil war for sure. Hard to make a profit if the city's tearing itself apart. If the Crimson Flames found out what happened to Raubahn...hooo.

Since they are covering it up, it stands to reason that the common populace not to know what's going on. If I go to Ul'dah and the Brass Blades tried to arrest me in public, that blow the lid on the whole thing, and, well, see above. There's still too many folks that still see us as the the Warrior of Light that slays Primals and pushes back the Empire. If the Crystal Braves try to pull anything, the same would happen. Also, the GC leaders probably think the charges are trumped up, too, and have the power to give the CB's the boot from their city if they try anything against the WoL. The people of Rev's Toll would even less likely to put up with them. Hell, the Domans there would probably be more then happy to find a shallow ditch to bury any CB's that tried anything against us.

So it's a bit of a stretch, but being able to still walk around freely works, story-wise, though the 3 City-states have become a much less friendly places to be.

That being said, it'd cool if they had something where you (rarely, maybe once per day) get ambushed by Brass Blades/Crystal Braves while out and about.

You know what I'm pissed off about? Merlwyb taking off and not saying a damn thing in my defense, or exercsing political clout to at least bail me out of the situation, despite being signed up under the Maelstrom. She left me to rot. Limsa first, indeed. Hell, I called Raubahn Rhubarb all the time, and he still freed me while having his arm freshly cut off.

EDIT: Oh, and I still hate Midgy.

Did anyone else cheer at Raubahn? Like I was so certain for a moment someone was going to step in and stop him and instead he actually went through with it.

I was really glad to see that at least some of the Monetarists got comeuppance as a result of this.

In all honesty, at every single CS after the trial leading up to the ending I was literally screaming at the screen, 'How can you NOT see what's coming!? Are you all BLIND??' The whole plot was beyond blatantly obvious... and the whole time I just wanted one of the leaders who was told to do something to just turn around and say 'No.' It all reads like a bad movie. Too many cliches, too many red flags, and every single character is just totally oblivious...

Too many cliches, too many red flags, and every single character is just totally oblivious...

To be fair, if we only saw what our character could see, without all those convenient "Meanwhile, elsewhere..." parts of the cutscenes, it'd be much less obvious. The players knew what was coming, but only because we got to see more behind-the-scenes stuff than our characters could have.

Granted, yes there's that... but I was suspicious about the whole thing from the end of the scholar escort quest with just the things I saw with my own character. When I found out about the event afterwards, which we only get the POV of our character, then at the end of the quest line just before the private invite... I knew at the last bit of text in the quest that something major was up. All of that was only character POV and knowing we were being urged back and getting the private invite told me exactly what was going on.

I would kind of agree with this, The problem was when we turned away and the camera zoomed in at some NPCs if they cut this out it wouldn't have given so much away.

Well, personally I disagree for my own self. Like I said, that bit happens after he urges us back to Ul'dah. I didn't need to see that scene to know what was happening... maybe I'm a bit more cynical about stuff like that, but I picked up on it in the way his last statement was worded alone. I guess it's just a difference in what some people pick up on versus others.

A few thoughts after having seen the final cutscenes. Things that have yet to be shown:

1. Riol's current whereabouts. We can assume that Alianne was unfortunately assassinated prior to the coup. Laurentius and Yuyuhase are still ranking members of Crystal Braves as well and we will have to contend with them eventually.
2. Ascians have their hands in both bowls when it comes to Ishgard. They've been seen behind the Holy Seer, and they also gifted Ysayle with the information of how to summon the more powerful Shiva EX. They're pretty omniscient at this point.
3. Pretty sure Minfilia is safe, despite severing from us at the end of the secret tunnel. Definitely curious as to her reasoning for splintering.
4. I find it hard to believe that the other scions bit the dust too, especially considering the popularity of Y'shtola. We'll need more information to go on before we can write them off.
5. I want to say that Ilberd is probably deadif Raubahn is still alive but in custody. There's no way I can imagine both of them living after that encounter.
6. I want my Nanamo back.

Looking at it from the character's PoV it was our allies, there was that scene in the Rising Stones, implicating the monetarists which I do think for appearances sake they could (and should) have removed, and up to the final events left the identity of the dead Brave's killers a mystery and it would have looked better from the character's PoV. That would be my main concern.

I mean before Nanamo plunged Ul'dah into chaos we would have wanted one of her most trusted defenders to help, and been certain that they would do anything to help, so the private audience isn't too suspicious.
