No.
As a healer you shouldn't be standing there doing nothing. You can help DPS without cleric stance if you don't feel that you'll be able to keep the tank up easily with having to deal with the cooldown on the cleric stance. You also can use the first pulls as a gauge on how to heal and DPS. If the tank is having no troubles with his HP and threat, pop cleric stance for the next pull and go for Holy. If the tank is having troubles with his HP and threat then stay out of cleric stance and explain that to the DPS.
Everyone would lose shit if a tank/DPS performs on the same level as some healers here.
Sub-optimal:
The tank runs to the boss, does his single enmity rotation twice and then just stops. He's taking the damage and is holding aggro = fulfilling his job.
After one minute afk, he repeats his rotation twice again and stops for another minute.
Or a black mage who is uncomfortable with watching out for his mana, so he's only using ice attacks.
Or a Healer who's throwing out some cures and then just stands there doing nothing.
optimal:
The Tank is not only holding aggro, but also proceeds to do damage and is aware of positioning.
The Black mage ofc uses his Fire Stance to do more DPS
And the healer, while every1 is full HP, is doing damage as well to contribute to the party instead of being just rude and doing nothing, waiting for ever1 else to finish the encounter.

I don't think there is any more water to wring out of this wash cloth. I should just post a video of how I play so people can see that the situation is not relevant anymore. =P
I've had many experiences since I posted this, including one where the tank asked me to please stick to just heals and let the DPS do their job, so the only conclusion I can draw is we all like different things. If we win and nobody dies along the way, we did good and nobody should get hot and bothered. XD
Luckily they did not get me as their healer. I would've gone CS, stayed there and quote that guy after ever single wipe.

A Tank has more options to hold enmity, which includes DPS. A Healer who isn't keeping all party members at 100% is a bad healer. There are a lot of crappy tanks and DPS who go into dungeons undergeared, or incompetently do their jobs, so the healer has to compensate by healing more. Healers do not get to be carried, as they have to carry everyone if the party is weak.Everyone would lose shit if a tank/DPS performs on the same level as some healers here.

If you routinely get crappy tanks, healers or DPS from DF, then you know better than to assume that players are going to be optimal. It's in fact rare, when playing as a healer to ever get a party where you have time to DPS. I think out of all the parties I've ever had in this game I've only ever had two where it felt like "I should do something cause the Tank is only losing tiny amounts of HP, I think they can last 10 seconds"
As someone mentioned in the healer horror stories, perhaps it's because PUG Tanks aren't using their Tank stance(Shield Oath/Defiance) like they are supposed to, and are instead trying to be DPS, is why healers do not get much opportunity to do anything but heal.

Really, it depends on your ability/equips/confidence.
What is really silly is to be a bitch about what you decide, in either scenario.
For example, I once ran Keeper of The Lake in DF and got this healer who decided to turn on Cleric Stance and DPS. Sounds bad? It wasn't, actually it helped a lot, and not a single person died. Yet the tank wouldn't stop bitching the first 5 minutes about how the healer should focus on healing or we'd die. At the end the tank wouldn't even admit the healer did a good job, but that's people for you.

This is actually false. A healer who feels compelled to keep everyone at 100% at all times is an overhealer and is probably building excessive enmity as well as wasting GCDs. Good healers account for things like rate of incoming damage and party members' self-healing CDs and passive regen.
As for carrying, I find myself carrying bad healers and tanks more than I do bad DPS. Not to say that it doesn't happen, but really bad DPS are usually either so passive that they take minimal damage or so bad otherwise that they die no matter what.

I like throwing in some damage spells if I'm not playing catchup in a low level dungeon healing a min level or undergeared tank (or DPS who pull aggro too much).
I'm just curious how long that group had to wait to get a new healer? I gave up leveling up my BLM cause the queues were 30+ mins waiting on a healer or tank. Dungeon wait times for healers are generally instant for me. Unless they kicked OP cause they had a healer lined up they probably wasted more time waiting on getting a new one. That's bad min/max-ing their time LOL...
