Echoing a lot of the other posters in this thread, I found the story atrocious. Highly disappointing. I'm confident I could have written something better in a single day. This was not the high-quality, involved, intricate and clever plots we are used to from the Final Fantasy series.

I mean who wrote this? Someone who's never read a book or watched a TV series? Was it specifically scripted for the under fives? It had all the nuance of a Pokémon episode. Tell me it wasn't Fernehalwes' doing? Surely not?

Ach, I'm sorry to come across as so negative, but this is the most disappointment I've felt for a story since series three of Once Upon A Time started.

Fortunately for S-E, I'm content capping my classes and farming gear until Heavensward, which I've already paid £130 for the privilege of being able to play in a few months. I just could never recommend a friend invests time playing this game.

This. I don't know what Final Fantasy did this person play, but as far as I remember, their story was really basic (except for Tactics for the PSX). Maybe he thought the plot was amazing back then but if you replay it, you'll notice that it's not. Don't get me wrong, though, I really enjoyed the saga. However, both Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross had a way better story than any FF tittle and it's from the same company.

Of the FFs I've played to completion, FFVI, FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, FFX, FFX-2, FFXI and even FFXIV 1.x that applies, for me (idk about XII, didn't get round to finishing it)

The combination of killer storyline and original game mechanics has always been the thing that has drawn me to FFs.

I enjoyed the ending overall it was entertaining especially the Raubahn stuff.

Sad to see so many of the characters die (maybe)

Wow. Has Pokemon got more gorey since the original series?

I can't recall anyone losing a limb in that show. Gushing blood was absent with Raubahn, but still. That was more gore than I was expecting.

I was really counting on plot armor to save the Sultana. And based on that one NPC, for all we know it still might. But I was fully not expecting,"We're killing almost everyone off! ...or are we?"

When the Sultana cried in a previous patch everyone thought maybe Raubahn had died. Which, he hadn't. I was expecting something like that again. Even more so when we find that Crystal Braves soldier person in Urths Fount, dead. I was naive and thought that was going to be the mystery person who dies. So I completely dropped my guard after that. I knew something was still not right. But I wasn't at all expecting what happened, to happen.

The storylines certainly aren't bad, but they've always been pretty trope-y and have shared numerous similarities to most of the other JRPGs that I've played (the Tales of series, the Shining series, the Star Ocean series, Lunar, etc.). They're fun and I enjoy them, I just wouldn't say any of them are examples of amazing writing, not even FFX (which is my favorite).

I have killed Bahamut Prime, Primals and fought Midgardsormr but a few Brass Blades and Crystal Braves can handcuff me and put me to the floor. Ok SE ok.

In all those cases you were in a party... You didn't solo Bahamut Prime... You didn't solo primals... you didn't solo Midgardsormr... As dps you rely on tanks and healers... as tank you rely on dps and healers... and as healer you rely on dps and tanks... you were in that cutscene alone without backup. There might also have been more people around than what we could see.
