It's pretty hard to listen to a story when 90% of the quests 'involved' in the MSQ progression are all filler dialog.

They could have went with the 1.0 method of actual relevant story quests spread every X amount of levels, and then provide you with multiple leveling methods to get between them. Instead here in ARR you're pretty much forced to go through the entirety of the fetch quests since everything is unlocked through the MSQ.

God forbid the amount of times you have to revisit the Waking Sands.

I will admit 1.0 is superior. Hildebrand beats 2.0 but maelstrom onward is what I enjoy most.

If you want story, research about the game's lore. The story about the Allagan people, how the Crystal Tower and how The Binding Coil of Bahamut (Which story is better than the main-story, even) are kinda related. The ancient civilizations like the Nym or Gelmorra, the Twelve, etc. You will change the way you see the game after it, when almost everything you'll see across the maps, will start to make sense.

PNJ is NPC in spanish too. "Personaje no jugador" = "No playable character".

Well, it's not just that.... One can take only so much of a generic story, re-chewed from past games they played and, as someone mentioned, ARR's compared to some other FF stories is rather weak. Hard to keep interest levels high, for me at least, especially when paired with weak gameplay solutions they tend to throw in between the dialog/cutscene parts.

    Spoiler alert:
Doesn't help they introduced a NPC with bit more character, that isn't as lifeless as the rest of the main NPCs, the fem Roe one just to kill her off so soon.

Speak for yourselves, some of us actually enjoy the story. Sorry, but you do realise you're playing a Final Fantasy game right? I mean, story is sort of central to every FF game ever made, and most of that involves the same runaround that we've enjoyed for over twenty years now.

There are people who will almost instinctively skip every line of dialogue in the game just to 'get through the scene'. Those are the people who, in my opinion, are unfit to judge the storyline since they have absolutely no clue what the story even is. Maybe if they took their time, they might enjoy it more? Just a thought.

A problem of localization/translation. The japanese dialogue is much superior to the english dialogue. Can't do much about the teleporting, since that's a game mechanic, and im assuming it isnt that easy to teleport around in the actual story.

The pointless quests in between I agree, theres no reason to have them. Or their food/potion rewards.

We enjoy stories too, good ones, which we desparately wish we could say about FFXIV's story. We know they're central to FFXIV and the franchise, in general, which is what makes FFXIV so frustrating: sitting through a long, boring story.

I personally enjoyed the main scenario quests, but was pretty annoyed by some of the NPCs. What I got out of the Main scenerio quests (spoilers ahead):

Minfilia is just the worst. She is the ultimate "damsel in distress" cliche, and I have no clue why she is in a position of leadership. I kept hoping as I progressed through the main scenario quests that she'd do something, anything, but then I got to the last series of main scenario quests and what happens? She gets kidnapped by an Ascian... *Sigh*.

Alphinaud is just plain boring. He has absolutely no personality and I could mistake him for anyone else I just briefly met as I passed them in the street. I really hope they either ditch this NPC or add some quests that flesh him out to at least make him somewhat relatable, instead of the political string-puller that I see him as now (really, I started to think throughout the main scenario quests that they'd do a switcheroo, and Alphinaud would turn out to be a traitor or a spy because I just didn't understand why else they would make an NPC so boring to the point where you just dislike him).
