If you want story, research about the game's lore. The story about the Allagan people, how the Crystal Tower and how The Binding Coil of Bahamut (Which story is better than the main-story, even) are kinda related. The ancient civilizations like the Nym or Gelmorra, the Twelve, etc. You will change the way you see the game after it, when almost everything you'll see across the maps, will start to make sense.

PNJ is NPC in spanish too. "Personaje no jugador" = "No playable character".

Speak for yourselves, some of us actually enjoy the story. Sorry, but you do realise you're playing a Final Fantasy game right? I mean, story is sort of central to every FF game ever made, and most of that involves the same runaround that we've enjoyed for over twenty years now.

There are people who will almost instinctively skip every line of dialogue in the game just to 'get through the scene'. Those are the people who, in my opinion, are unfit to judge the storyline since they have absolutely no clue what the story even is. Maybe if they took their time, they might enjoy it more? Just a thought.

We enjoy stories too, good ones, which we desparately wish we could say about FFXIV's story. We know they're central to FFXIV and the franchise, in general, which is what makes FFXIV so frustrating: sitting through a long, boring story.

I think the problem is that there are too many ''fetch and help a npc with something a random rank 1 goon of the crystal braves/scions could help with''- quests/scenes and not enough of:

    [Spoiler]

It would also help the quest progression if we had the 1.0 system where NPCs would actually contact you via linkpearl, instead of having to go [the waking sands] just to confirm what they already know, and then go back again to a place you already knew you had to go to.

I'm reminded by this feature from 1.0 every time a Scion gets contacted via linkpearl..

You're geting up in arms for no reason. We're all expressing our feelings about the story
and lo and behold, SOME of us don't like it. I've read it, and dislike it.
The NPC's are near all jokes. The only ones to me that aren't stupid and have character is everyone but the Scion's.
Our own team is bland as hell except Papalymo and Yda that provide a bit of comic relief.
If you didn't begin in specific starter city then you missed 2/3 of the story. [If you went Ul'dah, you went along with Thancred mostly.]
I wish the Scion's were more enticing as we are connected to them the entire way through.
I also wish my character had personality...Take GW2 for example. That was one of the best things GW2 did.

I personally enjoyed the main scenario quests, but was pretty annoyed by some of the NPCs. What I got out of the Main scenerio quests (spoilers ahead):

Minfilia is just the worst. She is the ultimate "damsel in distress" cliche, and I have no clue why she is in a position of leadership. I kept hoping as I progressed through the main scenario quests that she'd do something, anything, but then I got to the last series of main scenario quests and what happens? She gets kidnapped by an Ascian... *Sigh*.

Alphinaud is just plain boring. He has absolutely no personality and I could mistake him for anyone else I just briefly met as I passed them in the street. I really hope they either ditch this NPC or add some quests that flesh him out to at least make him somewhat relatable, instead of the political string-puller that I see him as now (really, I started to think throughout the main scenario quests that they'd do a switcheroo, and Alphinaud would turn out to be a traitor or a spy because I just didn't understand why else they would make an NPC so boring to the point where you just dislike him).

I was really interested in the story at the beginning but geeeez, the NPCs were talking so damn much and I just wanted to progress with my char in this (for me) new awesome game so I started skipping everything. I'm sure I'll read the lore and story somewhere online when I have nothing to do
I just know some things from the past when I researched for writing the past of my own char

But I find actually the most irritating and annoying thing ever is that our characters are ALWAYS THE BEST IN EVERYTHING. Whether u speak to a NPC after defeating a primae or finishing a quest for a crafting/Gathering class. You char is always the most perfect in everything they do and actually the most popular and famous adeventurer in whole Eorzea...=_= I know it's for motivating and making u feel special and stuff but bleehhh, as if I didn't know they say this to everyone. I know I suck as balls sometimes so being called all that just feels odd and dishonest ö_ö
This always grinds my gears when I happen to read it

Do you even work leather? I'm 100% certain that the LTW guild master does not drop to her knees and worships the very ground we walk on when we show her a few bits of leather we crafted. In one of the quests she even tells us to go and apologize to a customer while she fixes our substandard craftmanship. I kinda liked the whole relationship we have with her purely because she does not pull any punches.

That particular guildmaster is overly harsh of your work actually. Compare it to a few of the others such as the Blacksmith guildmaster that takes note that for someone new to the craft your quite good at it.
Makes sense, just finishing an item at normal quality requires knowledge of the craft.

Your craftmanship for the LTW quest wasnt substandard, it was merely good. She was just being elitist and moaning about it not being HQ (actually, I did give her HQ in that particular quest, heh)

IMHO I think the story isn't quite Final Fantasy 'grade', and I've played them all from the original FF on NES to now, but I've played a lot worse.
I can say I have mostly enjoyed the story so far.
But it must be taken into consideration that ARR is a remake of a 'failed' FF game and that Yoshi was under a time constraint to get the game out.
Also, there is the fact that ARR started with the level 50 1.x characters so the 1-50 grind had to be reachable rather quickly so that the lvl 1 players didn't get discouraged and the lvl 50 players didn't get bored waiting for everybody else to catch up.
