Why are some hair styles race restricted?

All the original Femroe haircuts have a noticeably lower and more jagged hairline. Like, halfway down the forehead. Along with some outright gravity defying spikyness, I assumed that it would be a racial quip. For example~


You can even see it on the racially shared mohawk that girls have! This cut came out as a FemRoe exclusive, and it shows. I mean look at that crazy hairline.


If there was a haircut I'd hope to go cross-race, it'd be the two-bunned cut Momodi rocks. I've wanted that for FemRoes from BEFORE 2.0 BETA. I feel your pain, Erik.

Anyway, somewhere along the line, SE decided to drop the initial rules for haircuts being race locked, and thusly carrying unique traits (like the Roe's low foreheads, Miqo'te styling around their ears, Highlanders favoring tied back or wefted hair) and just started implementing the patched in styles for everyone. I have a feeling they won't go back and make currently locked styles for all races to keep an extra bit of unique flavoring for your race of choice, but you never know.

Lalafell and Miqo'te share a lot of hair styles so I don't think this is true any more.

Miqo'te got some 1.0 Lalafell hairstyles, but i think it is not the other way.

Personally, I would like to see all hairstyles shared, but there are a few that will never go Miqo'te because of their ears...

I'm still wondering why you can't dye or craft in inn rooms.

Or more related to the topic, why female elezens have a bald hairstyle, but males don't unless things have changed.

Ohhh, the nitpicky design choices that SE has made...I could rant for days. It's the small things that will drive me insane.

That's one thing my husband has been waiting for. He uses the buzzed haircut on his Male Highlander but he hates the design styled into it. He's been waiting for just a normal buzzed haircut like midlander and (female?!) Elezen have.

Hairstyles are race restricted because: 1. Different races have different sized heads. 2. The heads are of different shapes. 3. The hairlines start differently and ears are located at different places.
This all boils down to more work on the modeling side as each and every hairstyle has to be modified to fit other races.

Jenlyns is midlander though, he is pretty small.

That's what he means. There are Midlander and Highlander exclusive hairstyles at the moment, which don't make a lick of damn sense considering they are both Hyur's.

Not to mention Hyur Midlander is the only race that hasn't had a race-exclusive hairstyle from a patch. The long hair/dreads? Highlander only. So even though that was the "hyur hair" patch, it only applied to one half of the hyuran population. I'm still waiting for a hyur midlander hair from a patch. Not that I approve of the "one race onry" policy, but if it's been that way for all other races, it's not fair to exclude one of them -- or in this case half of one.
