Speaking of which...
Like I said on the other post, as a singing bard I get no comms.
But my last ST run I got 2 Com's as a DRG. O_ O;
And another in a dif ST...
I didn't die...>>
<<
Any other DRG's getting comm's? xD! I feel nice, I'm a fresh DRG and I'm doing my rotations.
Most of all...I'M NOT DYING LOL.
Going to start giving my brother/sister Drg's more love since I feel the stress a bit personally.![]()
I usually give it to healer that can balance their dps and healing good and don't just spam Holy like a lunatic ( as much as I love the light of holy but if it just 1 - 2 mob just Stone it)
also if healer just healing all the way then I will give my comm to dps that effect party the most.
for dps I'm not going to give my comm depend on how hard to play that class are but how effective they are in party.
Sorry for my english

I don't even care about receiving commendations any more. I always get them when I'm at my laziest, and never get them when I end up solo healing Ex primals etc. So meh.
I try to give them but a lot of people leave dungeons and instances instantly. I really appreciate a good tank who makes runs smooth, so they are first in line. But if tank was average I give to DPS.

I'm currently sitting on 1442 commendation. Most of it came from running Pharos Sirius in 2.1 as a SCH, teaching new players the what how for bosses and such. Others came from being a BLM and I seem to always get 3/3 commendation when tanking dungeons like Cutters Cry and Stone Vigil.
Actually, best place to get commendations at all is from dungeons that have no relation to: Expert Roulette, High Level Roulette and Trial Roulette (Zodiac Dungeons + Light Farm = usually no commendations because gotta go fast!). If you want a lot of commendation, do the level 30-42 dungeons as a tank or healer. You'll either get 1-3 commendations no problem.

I was kicked from Aurum Vale as a healer once, because tank wanted to speed run and I wasn't managing to keep up with the first room pull. I used Join In Progress, returnedin the same party, did not bitch (though I asked what was the reason they selected for kick in the kick window, they said "offline", even though I was not.). Anyways, we proceeded and completed duty smoothly. And I walked out with 3/3 commendations from the very same people who had first kicked me.
Sometimes, just doing your job won't earn you commendations. You have to impress. Though I'd still not define commendations as "respect".

I actually got commendations more as a healer rather than tanks, based on my experience leveling all classes, healers (whm in particular) tend to get more commendations especially from guildhest.. Dps such as monk and drg receive less unless you'd become the tank simply because the tank cant keep aggro, blm will get random commend despite how i performed..

I feel like these vary a lot based on the type of duty.
In low level and four-man dungeons in general I get more commendations as a tank. The tank stands out more as the person that set the pace, pulled the right amount of mobs, and protected everyone.
In trials, I actually receive the most commendations from playing damage dealers. Really, people just don't hand them out very often and just leave immediately between light, card, and pony farming, but I think when people put out good DPS and dodge it stands out more in trials.
In the Crystal Tower, I receive the most commendations when playing a healer. Healers have the hardest job here, ideally healing multiple tanks, raising healers from other parties, and, well, fighting against damage dealers that can't dodge and don't stand together for buffs or AoE heals. For WHM it also involves knowing when to switch to spam Holy. When everything holds together, most people seem to default to the healer for commendations.
