Alright, I was overly snarky. I apologize.
But people in this thread are saying that they are too lazy to click 2 or 3 times, and that's kind of absurd to me. I clicked a dozen times just within this thread, and I probably click on things a hundred times or more in each dungeon. When you consider that those few extra clicks are helping a player get one degree closer to a pet, glamour, or mount, isn't that worth it? Can't everyone spare a few extra clicks?
Yeah, I am a pleb. Spare a click mister? I've got a starving child and bum leg! Just a few more clicks will do me right!
Commendation are meant for your good behavior. Act good might be helpful.
Personal order of priority for giving out commendations:
1) Fellow lalas (represent!)
2) People who were especially helpful
3) People with amusing names/glamour
4) DPS who did good (because they deserve some appreciation after queuing for half an hour)
5) Healer/tank if they didn't already ditch the party as soon as the run ended
6) Anyone else if they happen to be the last person left in the group (might as well give it to someone...)
I don't believe in giving commendations to tanks/healers just for doing their role properly, you should be doing those roles because you want to, not just because you get fast queues and easy commendations, incentivising people too much to play roles they're uninterested in learning how to do properly just leads to an overall decline in the quality of players.
Well, poor quality tanks and healers are easily noticed and unlikely to actually get commendations. I don't see an issue with giving commendations to roles which are in high demand as long as they're doing their job properly.I don't believe in giving commendations to tanks/healers just for doing their role properly, you should be doing those roles because you want to, not just because you get fast queues and easy commendations, incentivising people too much to play roles they're uninterested in learning how to do properly just leads to an overall decline in the quality of players.
Well, the reason I don't usually give commendations is because when I'm repeating a duty for farming, nobody really stands out, can't decide to whom it should go to, so I don't bother with it.
Only case I make a conscious effort to give commendations is when I want to experience boost for leveling a character, but the 1000gil really isn't much of a motivation for me to go out of my way to commend people. Otherwise, I'll just throw it to the other healer if I was slacking. If the other healer made me work extra, then usually nobody gets it. As a healer, I can see quite easily who's getting hit by telegraphs and what not
Sure, if my clicks will put food on your table, I'll gladly send some clicks your way![]()
I normally don't commend ppl for playing their job, tank for tanking, healer for healing etc. It's their job and it's expected from them to do so. I did observe though when I'm healing and my tank doesn't bother to use any of his cooldowns and is getting hit like a boxing bag and almost dead every pull, I won't get any commends. On the other hand, when my tank uses his cds and allows me actually to dps, I will get commends. Also when I'm on smn and help the party by res'ing when healers are dry and E+E when it's up I don't get a single commend, even though I didn't just stand there and spam Ruin while my party was dying around me, which is something I hate seeing on other smns. People don't bother to see the bigger picture and analyze who was playing with their team or who didn't.
I will commend when I see:
1- tanks on low dungeons clearing all rooms, using their cds, going for adds when they OT, watch for the party's enmity.
2- healers who esuna when needed (god what is it with healers lately? do they have to pay for esuna/leeches?) and not just cure when there's a dot to be dispelled.
3- smns who resurrect without having to be told, send their egis to adds that need to be killed asap, e.g. portals on WoD.
4- blms who apocastasis weakened players during a major aoe and.
5- any dps who doesn't ignore mechanics and adds to stay at top for parser on the boss.
6- anyone who plays with the party, not an offline game that happens to be connected to the internet
I won't commend if I see:
1- lazy tanks, no adds, no cds, penis comparison at bosses.
2- healers on medica2 spam, no esuna, keep dpsing when players need to be healed
3- any dps who just plain ignores everything, doesn't dodge even if you bribe him to, no ballad/requiem/goad/heavy thrust/flare at full mp
4- anyone who just looks for his own penis enlargement, stressing the rest of the party
See, I'm leveling a healer now (finally) and I don't get why anyone WOULDN'T do this. Because I'm going crazy on Scholar without this spell for now.
Seeing a DoT on someone is freakin' stressful. Like someone low on health, it's a problem that needs dealing with ASAP. The game is so clear about what you do in your role, that why would you think for a moment you're NOT supposed to fix that?
My order/criteras
1. DPS that perform as expected from their gear (this is more rare then gaius cards), if you use foe a lot you have a good chance of getting com for that
2. Tanks that use CD's correctly and maximise their dps, dropping defiance on bosses when vengenace or tob/conv is availible etc
3. Healers that stance dance correctly
4. New ppl that announce that they are new and willing to lissen to tactics etc as long as they are decent on their job which they normally are, it seems to go hand in hand.
5. Friendly and/or helpful players
When i play DPS i find that i often get more commendations based on gear than my actual performance. it was the same with both SCOB and FCOB gear. I normally get a couple of commondations halfassing stuff when i do it with jobs that has dreadwyrm weapon/gear.
I rarely ever get any commendations on my i112 bard singing foe several times each fight and doing 100-150+ dps more then #2 in my group in 24man content.
wtb official parser.
I main WHM and WAR. It's true I get most of my comms from WAR and the occasional WHM.
Thing is: People see Tanks first → Melee DPS → Healers → Ranged DPS
Tanks are often seen as the "leaders" of the group as they run upfront and are always in line of sight. Getting bashed by all mobs. Often thus the center of the party.
Melee DPS are often seen, yet their impact is hard to gauge for other group members thus they often get overseen. Only when they go above and beyond duty do you notice them.
Healers are noticeable when you need health or go down. Yet healing is seen as our job thus healers often get overseen as well.
Ranged DPS Often unnoticeable. You often don't see them. Barely see the impact they are making and same with Melee DPS when they go above and beyond duty do you really notice their value.
That being said:
Tanking is the most stressful job, Healing next, DPS afterwards.
Someone made a joke\Analogy a long time ago and it seems to fit here perfectly:
Tanking is a job. Healing is Responsibility and DPS is fun.
Why? Tanks needs to know the fights inside and out, it is their job to keep people safe and keep aggro on them. When a DPS or Healer messes up it is the tanks job to fix it. However it is the Healers responsibility to keep everyone alive. If the tank doesn't do his job, it is up the healer whom is responsible to ensure that the group survives. DPS is fun, if you mess up it's the tanks job to fix it and the healers responsibility to keep you alive during this period of time so the tank can remedy the situation.
Do not misunderstand me, I'm not saying DPS isn't important and this is not my analogy. However if tank dies it can be remedied by the healer, if the healer dies it's a wipe 95% of the time (Assuming 4 man content ofcourse.)
My commendations therefore go to the person whom I think was playing best. If I think everyone was doing lousy? I won't give any comms at all.
