    Bear in mind that Marauder defensive cooldowns won't be as effective as your own ones, as you'll be missing the passive traits which improve them so you'll only ever get the baseline effects if you take them as cross-class skills. As a gladiator you have a much wider range of cross-class skills to choose from, but once you equip your job crystal and become a paladin you're more limited in how many cross-class skills you can use, and you can only equip marauder and conjurer skills.

    That goes for all classes though and just not MRD - a class will often natively gain a trait or traits that boost that ability's effectiveness, but because you can't cross-class traits sadly, abilities become less potent when used on another class (like, Protect only protects against physical damage when cross class because it loses the 'Proshell' abillity which CNJ has natively that adds magic damage protection as well). Not to mention also weaponskills cross-classed like MRD's Skull Sunder are not worth cross-classing as they cannot be comboed when cross-classed, reducing their usefulness, hence I don't usually bother with these.

    Of course on the otherhand, cross-classed abilities are still very useful and can make all the difference in a fight - you just have to be wise which ones you use and which ones you ignore, a task made harder by the smaller pool of abilities to use from when a Job crystal is equipped.
