Anyone with a guess on how many specialization we will get per character or account?
Hi Gillionaire,I believe that's also the reason some of the high-end crafters can amass so much damn wealth.. Not because they're being stingy with it, but because there's just nothing to spend the money on..
It's actually starting to annoy me that gil in this game feels a lot like the how gold was in Diablo 2.. Repair bill, use for a little bit of gambling.. then nothing else, you just stockpile and let it sit.. I didn't get into crafting just so I could make gil and sit on it
I definitely agree with pretty much all of your posts on crafting.I really hope that the "Specialist" system is something that doesn't permanently lock people out of maxing out all their Crafting paths, but we'll see.
One note about your above statement:
* To be fair, buying your own House is a huge Gil Sink, and something I know quite a few people are desperate to save up for (some are saving up for buying their own M or L Size House even, sheesh).
* Also, the Relic Weapon quest has some Sinks to it, especially those that make 2+ Weapons (and repeat the process).
That being said, don't get me wrong, I agree that I'd also like to see a healthier market.
It's sad that Yoshi P's initial idea of *not* wanting Potions and Food to matter much (because he was afraid it'd be a "requirement" for fights, we ended up with the weak Potions and Food we have now (compared to, say, FF XI's effective consumables)), has basically made the Player Economy / Market for Consumables be as weak as it is currently.
I know he's always trying to find "balance," but his push to normalize, marginalize, minimize so many facets of XIV 2.0 at launch has left us with a very bland feeling overall:
* Gear Itemization is one of the WORST I've seen in any RPG: *Every* single Gear Upgrade is just about - "surprise" - More +VIT, +[Main Stat].If we keep this pace, we can predict, the iLevel 700 piece of gear you're getting? MORE Vitality and More [Main Stat] of that Job. Sigh.
* Food and Potions are very mild & bland compared to the effects of consumables in XI.
* Materia System is Awful. How does it make sense to any regular gamer (or especially newcomers) that you can Never meld more of your [Main Stat] (that's been taught is THE most important Stat you can have (e.g., STR for DRG / MNK)) onto any Gear you get (not counting the Alt Jewelry builds (which are actually still lower iLevel than Max))?
It doesn't make sense at all. It's not intuitive.
And of course, eliminating the Elemental Wheel means all that Elemental Materia is worthless as well.
Ultimately, I hope we get a major rework / opening up of these severe limitations in 3.0.
I used Observe a lot during Master II Books. Observe has a clear reason to exist. Basic Touch, to a limited extent, does as a more reliable alternative to Hasty Touch if you are getting a lot of TotT procs. Standard and Advanced Touch are incredibly niche. The example you gave is basically the only time I use it as well, and it's rare that happens. There are a lot of "IFs" that need to be met for those to be useful which begs the question why did they even bother having these abilities in the first place.
I agree, Flawless and Brands are very pointless. However, if you could take another cross class skill for dumping Standard/Advanced Touch you probably would. When I have so much free CP that I would use these skills in a 4* recipe I generally already know I'd hit 100% without it.

oh I meant 9 digits, not 9 zeros
But, I'm sure there are people with multiple billions of gil.. Especially on Jenova, I've only started playing since December and really started making gil since end of January or beginning of February.. Jenova just has a lot of gil floating around and everything seems to cost a small fortune, so for a crafter it's quite easy.
Even for non-crafters, I know some people who just spiritbond for a few hours a day and can come up with 3million gil.
Yeah I realise, that's why I was surprised! xD
Makes sense if only been doing since Jan ^^
Odin's market kinda sucks, as so many 4* crafters now.
There are ways to make decent gil still (materia still sells well etc etc), but I can't be bothered xD

Is Odin just a small server? I'm not sure what to categorize Mateus as, but after the first few weeks of new recipes most of the hype dies down and 4* items can stay up there for a while. Part of the reason I can't be bothered posting stuff is because I'd have to baby sit the item so I don't miss the once every two week purchase because I was undercut.
MCDs and Tier IV materia sells well enough and financed most of my Master II books, but once again if I don't have anything to spend money on what's the point. At this point I'm using crafting to make gil so I can level crafting...
I think Odin is about medium sized, but don't really know to be honest.
This may be a noob question but when you guys make your crafting alts do you go thru the story any?
I've been doing the story just up to the retainers.. I may do a little more for chocobo later if I feel like it.
But I'm hoping that SE wouldn't impose a storyline pre-req for crafters without a warning in advance.. Otherwise, most of the full time crafters I see wouldn't be able to do anything without going through so much of the main story, it would be a really bad move on SE's part if they did that.
