How do you feel about the FFXI News?

WHAT this hasn't been locked yet! lol every thread about FFXI was locked.


Hearing the news made me happy I stopped playing in 2013. I started on PS2 and moved to Xbox, if I still played, I would be pretty pissed. I played FFXI for almost 10 years, that's crazy. But I was really surprised that they are dropping xbox service, PS2 that is long over due. If they dropped PS2 years ago the game could have been even better. At least they are going out with a bang.

I hope SE assigns some of the FFXI crew to FFXIV. They did such a good job on FFXI and I would love to see that level of quality in FFXIV. Yoshi P. did mention at FFXIV Fan Fest Las Vegas that the FFXIV crew is very small and that they were looking for potential employees.

SquareEnix...dont bury the game after last expansion, re-release it as standalone game please, even if it means single player.
Dont let FFXI go lost like many other older games have for many years now.

Pretty sure that when 1.0 was being developed, most of XI's team(s) were moved to it and have stayed mostly on the XIV team, to this day.

XI is already running on a skeleton crew, there's not much to take anymore.

2 weeks? I remember waiting hours sometimes even almost entire day for invite but weeks? And this was as drgs that no one wanted. Although rdm were insta-vites. What job were you playing?

I'm not saying I sat 24/7 for 2 weeks. I couldn't do anything but wait in valkrum since trying to solo outside just led to losing exp. I started I think on monk and struggled to 18, switched to war and sold gear (then felt dumb I didn't wait until 20 and chocobo), then gave up after putting in a few hours each day of afking without invites as war/mnk. I was looking forward to playing DRG cause I thought the wyvern was super cute.. But quickly realized that would never happen. I wasn't about to pay to afk when I could go have fun on another mmo for free..

End of an Era really. Final Fantasy XI still holds my fondest memories in an FF MMO.

With the final major update set to launch in November it's pretty much over unless you want to stay and do the same content.

People aren't saying it's being shut down, they're discussing the fact that it's going into maintenance mode, which means no new content will be developed for it.

Not that it's going to shutdown but it's the first steps to closure. The reason people are saying this is because they have fully admitted that this is the last expansion they are releasing for XI that will tie all the expansion into one finale. Hearing that is a bit, well then moment cause there is a final final feeling to the fact they seem to no longer be supporting content for the game.

Abyssea was one of the best parts of ffxi for me ..ohhh yes. ^^

Been there right from the very start of the NA release,and continually subscribed ever since. So so many good times in there.

Im certainly not surprised of the news though. Population wise it has been quite sparse for a long long time now, and its design/coding limitations to grow and develop over the years was lacking compared to what any modern mmo even starts out at. It was bound to happen.

I still have a lot to do in there since I never "lived" the game, and I'm glad I played this way now especially. I have lots to finish off and things I have not even dabbled in yet, so I will continue on my journeys for a long time yet.

Will be there till the final torch is blown out....

(here as well though, and in WOW.........errr Rift dimensions of course too) lol
