Wow, this is a LOT of new information.
I'm primarily interested in the crafting and free-company stuff. It sounds like I need to start working up 8 alts, and fast.

Backwards updates makes a lot of sense to me.While it was backwards in 2.0 cause of unforseen circumstances I think it turned into a happy accident because by having the larger/easier raid come second it opened the door to a second means of gearing up for the main raid.
Basically the "backwards" way made the raid itself harder to progress through cause it would take longer to gear and then when the next patch rolls around the gear you get through the larger raid would be a means to gear slightly faster or ability to gear another job quicker.
End-game progression raid that only top groups will beat with whats available followed by catch up end-game for casuals to get into the hard stuff and for people wanting to gear out other classes.
Weird, could've sworn in another interview Yoshida had said that air battles would be impractical to add right now (because of positional issues and stuff), though he did not exclude instances with railway-styled flight and combat. Who knows. Maybe similar to how we use magitek in Praetorium?
I believe it was about random battles in the air, not about instanced fights. Like you dont get to fight normal mobs in the outworld in the air but airship battles could fit into instances or have sort of WoW-Lootship style pirating.Weird, could've sworn in another interview Yoshida had said that air battles would be impractical to add right now (because of positional issues and stuff), though he did not exclude instances with railway-styled flight and combat. I really personally like how Alexander isn't going to be available at launch, but close to it (two weeks after). It will allow me to level to 60 without having to rush! XD
I am curious to see the new tomestone-esque system for crafting/gathering, too!

So far, it looks really promising. I just hope they'll be able to deliver everything for expansion ^^
REALLY EXCITED FOR ASTROLOGIAN!
The main scenario roulette is year old content and people still get left behind or asked to skip.Like how players often skip movies to try to rush through activities.
Y: While it's good to allow players to be able to do so at their own discretion, at the same time there's a feeling from other members that new players should either skip cutscenes or they will go on ahead without them, and we're worried that players might become discouraged from this and as a result they won't enjoy some of the new content. This kind of impatience is the reason that we decided to keep Alexander closed for two weeks after the release of Heavensward.
Not sure how delaying the new raid for only 2 weeks would improve player impatience with content.
Also not sure about forcing focus for crafting/gathering to a single class (specialist) would be good for me. I like being able to do everything, the first time i started losing interest was with demateria system seemingly starting the trend for specializing.
But the rest of the information seems very interesting and makes me excited for the 3.x patch udpates.
You completely missed the point. The fact that the main scenario dungeons are a year old is why people get asked to skip the cut scenes. They want the end game raiders to not feel like they have to rush through all the new content and challenge Alexander before the first weekly reset of the expansion. If they can't enter Alexander for two weeks then they can take some extra time getting to 60 without missing out on a chance at end game gear.
It's as Ryans said: Delaying Alexander (Raid) 2 weeks allows all players to not feel rushed / pressured into skipping all the CSs, etc.
Even the most recent 2.5 Patch, on our server, there were a lot of players I know (or met in DF) on Day 1, 2, who basically skipped all the Story Cutscenes and rushed through everything. Asking some of them, they mentioned that they wanted to unlock Shiva EX ASAP and catch up to their static / others in the FC.
So it's a real issue.
I'm glad for the delay on the Raid. It really does allow players to take their time on feeling out New Jobs (and leveling / Job Story Missions / Abilities / Learning), New Main Story, exploring New Areas (can't wait!), and all the other things in Heavensward.
Great interview, still not feeling right that new jobs aren't level 1. I say just because its only the first expansion, not 3rd or 4th...
