Considering the way it was handled, it was confusing and misleading and a horrible experience for the consumer. If you are going to do this. Make it fair and available from all retailers at the same time so people arent scrambling to figure out whats going on or when. Transparency in business is key. Its what keeps customers coming back and generating new ones via word of mouth and good reviews. Either way SE will get its money from the items. So why cause all this grief to the consumer??

Actually, SE doesn't get nearly as much money from other retailers selling it, as they do from the SE store itself, which is why they had the orders on the SE store exclusively first.

Actually they don't get too much more, but exponentially speaking--after selling 100,000's copies--it adds up. The average dollar profit margin for retailers when selling a new video game ($60 game) is somewhere around $3(Nintendo) to $7(Sony). Sony tends to give the most back to the retailers based on trends. I believe SE is usually somewhere in the middle ($5). Now of course with Collector's Editions its different because the price is set higher and those vary drastically from developer to developer, but it tends to be in the 10-20 dollar range, rarely higher sometimes lower (Nintendo).

While we are on that note, fun fact: retailer profit margins for new systems is like 5-10 dollars. Its why GameStop shoves used games down consumers throats, because they wouldn't be able to stay open if they only sold new stuff, and its why just about any and all retailers take in electronic trades now (Target/Wal-Mart/Best Buy/GameStop/EB Games/etc) because their is no profit in new electronics.
