Hmm well,i didn't wait around for leves to recharge(i used them when available ofcourse) i picked a craft and focused on it almost exclusively until it hit 50,along with the gathering.I get bored very quickly of dungeons,so there isn't much else for me to do.
If you have a DoW or DoM retainer, you can easily spend ventures to gather mats dropped from mobs (good examples arApkallu eggs, Aldgoat skin, horns etc.) frees your time from killing trash so you can focus on other things, your mats will be ready in 40 minutes
Did you have trouble HQing all your turn-ins? Because after level 25 or so, virtually all my turn-ins were HQ, requiring about 40% less leve allowances per level range.
I also had little time during weekdays to play, so most days I'm done after the roulette and GC gathering turn-ins. I didn't bother with the GC crafter turn-ins because I often run into material I didn't have, and it's a waste of gil to buy stacks of 99 on the market board when I only need 2 or 3. In the end I do like 5~10 levels on half the crafts each weekend, and post level 30 my level allowances never dropped below 40.
The game is tuned to favor people who spread out their activities, which is what I would suggest the op do. Focusing on one craft then the next actually results in a lot of missed opportunities.

Shards are sooo cheap. Never mine shards. If you need shards, mine something that sells for more than shards. sell those things, and buy shards.
