Yeah no. OP has not reached 50 yet. Those aeros sure make large amounts of damage lmao. It's ok to do things just because they're fun, no need to find other excuses.

I know I'm totally taking this one line outta context, but...
That's the final group of trash in Keeper of the Lake (two separate packs)
With that being said, my contribution to the thread is this:
Have the situational awareness to make the right decisions
- Overgeared out the butt tank and DPS? Go nuts with DPS, you're just making it faster.
- Incredibly squishy tank? Prepare thy medical skills for the onslaught!
- Incredibly squishy tank AND overgeared DPS? Welp, you're gonna be doing a lot of healing on a lot of the party.
This is what makes the exceptional healers exceptional. They understand the group dynamic and know how to work their magic (har har) around it.

I hear you on the fun part, but the pre-50 game lasts all of a hot minute. Never too early to learn good play habits, especially if one's idea of fun is being good at the game.
Besides, I don't know what game you've been playing where WHM DPS is so inconsequential in low-level dungeons. You won't exactly be topping the charts in DPS if your party requires heavy healing support, but otherwise it's not bad at all.
The real fun is watching the Tank's health drop really low while you're dpsing (used to give an ex-friend heart attacks doing this), then spamming lustrate or benediction. Such a rush....Am I right ?
Just me ?
I'd say it's a give to do that, if Bene is up or you have aether stacks to spend so you can focus on holy/dotting some more.
However most of the times with strangers it ends up with me blowing bene while the tank chickens and blows hallowed ^_^
Just simply do as you wish. If you want to dps, go ahead. If not, that is fine. You should not be forced to play a way that you don't want to play. Especially if it's not something that will make or break a run.
This is fine in the spirit in which I believe it was intended, but also keep in mind that this is the kind of argument used by the WAR who needlessly spams Flash or the DRG who spams Impulse Drive; they're technically doing their jobs, but much more poorly than they could be, and to the detriment of the party. Time is valuable, and occasionally completion is also put at risk, even in casual content, if these people are bad enough.
Giving one role permission to underperform compared to the others is a slippery slope.
Its up to u
I remember when the game 1st came out, the average healer in parties weren't expected to dps
Hell lol remember failing the ultima story fight cuz the aoe dance was kind of hard?
But as the game progressed so did ppl's expectations of random healers doing their job and a little bit extra.
Technically ppl expect u to work harder and do both to make everyone's else life easier.
Only time i think u should consider in dpsing is if ur trying to help dps meet the check. Other than that just heal because dps probably won't help heal as to how u can help dps. ( the puny cross class cures and phys rarely help )
If you don't feel comfortable DPSing, then don't.As others have said, your primary job is to keep the party upright. Although, as you do dungeons, you'll become a lot more comfortable with how pulls typically go, your own skill, etc. Eventually you'll get a feel for things and know when to dps and when not to. As with anything in life, it takes experience. Just don't let jerks in DF discourage you.
Why do you have power drain on your columns..? xP
Personally, I'd rather more healers use to learn their full kit. There's still way too many white mages out there that hardly (or never) touch regen. And that never E4E, and so on. Then once they're comfortable actually using their abilities, then look into DPSing. As a bonus, learning to divine seal + regen and E4E before switching over to cleric stance (or hell, virus+e4e you can do in cleric stance :D) gives a bit more flexibility/opportunity in DPSing.
I'm with you in spirit, though. I do think everyone, including healers, should push to be their best. But with DPS, that's often a bit more straightforward than with healing.
