Everyone who has played in XI already knew the answer to this lol. For the people who keeping saying this isnt XI, you're right, this isnt XI. This is a business practice that SE has been doing since 2002. Live with it. It's was long confirmed that the Jobs will be added to the vanilla ARR just like the armors will. You can play DRK on vanilla BUT you need to have unlocked it in Heavensward FIRST. Same thing with the mounts and minions. SE is not gonna let you see someone riding absolutely nothing and see someone "naked" and doing no animations but is doing damage. Losing the PS3 when switching to PS4? Why the hell would you go backwards anyways? Tho it make sense since you can only have one license tied to your PSN. What also makes me laugh is some people though they could just buy the expansion and play XIV.

Except that it's totally not how FFXI worked...In FFXI, you only needed one registration key for your account, regardless of the system you played on. So, if you managed to borrow a PC expansion disk after buying your PS2 one, you could install and play the expansion on both.
So, everyone who has played in XI got the answer wrong.
Pretty much this. I got the game for both Xbox and PC but I only needed the actual game disks for xbox to play on that. The spare codes from xbox I was able to use to make a 2nd XI account and I could play either freely on either platform with BOTH XI accounts. Problem here is with XIV they're now turning around and making you pay to play on each platform rather than simply paying for the expansion for just the account and having the freedom to play on any platform with that account. In other words unlike XI to play your account on PC and PS4 you got to BUY THE EXPANSION TWICE for ONE ACCOUNT. Three times if your using your PS3 as well. Thats just wrong to be honest and excessively price gougy.
What would be nice to have is information about why in FFXIV we need to have a copy of each game (ARR + Heavensward) for each platform, and why in FFXI we only needed 1 copy of each game and platform didn't matter.
There may be reasons behind it that will determine whether or not SE is simply trying to milk out more money or there is a legitimate (and probably legal) reason(s) that requires it. There's potentially many reasons for it, but I would like to know the actual reason, personally.
It doesn't actually affect me, though, cos I only play on PC. But I do know it affects many players.
I am sorry but this:
The statement from the Live Letter was very clear.
If the answer was so clear, please answer these :
If I log out from my PS4 Heavensward account as a DRK in Ul'Dah, will I be able to log back on my ARR PC account ?
If I have have a new flying mount, will I be able to ride it (on the ground) in older zones with my ARR account ?
Or, what will happen if some new content is added to an existing Duty Roulette (Trials or PvP, for instance). Once I've unlocked it on my Heavensward account, will I be able to to queue in DR from my ARR account ?
Are you kidding me?
No (DRK is HW content)
No (can't use mounts in 2.x, I stand corrected there)
No (DURR! New roulette belongs to HW)
Anything else or can I go back to work now?
Anyhow, what do these questions have to do with your original post? That you will have to buy the expansion more than once if you use multiple platforms was VERY clear

Normally you shouldn't. They said that the new zones will be locked (that's normal) but that ARR players will be able to see & play with their DRK/MCN/AST friends/pick-ups. However, playing the class itself is supposedly expansion content. Thus no.
That's the theory. In practice, it may depend. For example, quid of the level cap ? Will ARR players be able to have a lv 60 character too ? If yes, I'd think you can play the new jobs in ARR areas too, because either way the files will be in the basic game to allow ARR players to play with other people.
Considering what I said just above, same case. Normally no. In practice maybe, as the files will be patched in ARR anyway. Same for the FC crafting. You may not be able to take part in it, but you'll be able to see the changes (housing glamour). If I have have a new flying mount, will I be able to ride it (on the ground) in older zones with my ARR account ?
A player in ARR should have no access at all to the Heavensward-specific files. Thus, in a ARR account, the roulettes should only feature ARR duties. You should be fine for that.Or, what will happen if some new content is added to an existing Duty Roulette (Trials or PvP, for instance). Once I've unlocked it on my Heavensward account, will I be able to to queue in DR from my ARR account ?
Not that simple. Also, you're contradicting yourself (DRK is HW content but so are the flying mounts). As I said, all the files concerning new gear, skills, jobs, mounts, minions, etc... will be patched in the ARR client to basically allow ARR players to play with HW players. Only the new zones, dungeons, or generally speaking the new instances will be locked out for sure.
In theory, ARR accounts should have no access to the HW content. But on the particular case of a "1 HW, 1ARR" player, they can perfectly unlock the new content and come back in ARR areas to log in with their ARR account. It has been confirmed that you would be allowed to do so. The only thing unclear is wether you'll be allowed to use any of the new items or not (items here being pets, gear, crystals, mounts).
Theory says "no". In practice, the files are here, so it should be "yes".
(so the answers would be :
yes
yes
yes as HW content will be invisible.
That's my intuition only though.
theory still says :
no
no
yes as HW content will be invisible)
