That's Travantchet and his fate as of now is Unknown. After all that item was stolen 10 years before the calamity and this is 5-ish years after it. So a lot can happen 15 years and a Megaflair later. All I wanna know is, wth happens with this shadowless guy and his shiny stolen key of doom. I demand answers!!
Oh, I'm well aware, and false name aside, I know what he truly is. My fear is that they'll completely discard what seemed to be turning into a great story - a story that stops dead just before being sent to see Minfilia.
Other than knowing he's an Ascian of some kind (Or a possesed host of one at least) there's no real proof that he is either still alive or even still exists. For all we know he could have been an ex-host of Nebralius. And we all know what happen to him.
I'd love for Travanchet to make a return along with the Horn. It's just funny how Ferne told us that we should be on the lookout for shadowless people in cutscenes and the only one that was found was the overly obvious one Travanchet, that wild goose chaseWe're dealing with Ascians so it'd only make sense for Travanchet to be mentioned or return sometime.

At the NA Fanfest they more or less confirmed that Travanchet was dropped entirely. He was going to be part of what seemed to be a much slower build-up to the reveal of what the Ascians were - like we'd get full answers about that at the *end* of 1.x or somesuch.
With the revised plot, the lore and story team decided to massively accelerate a couple of reveals, including going straight to dealing with the Ascian overlords and the true nature of Dalamud and whatnot. Travanchet is more or less pointless at this juncture (it's insinuated he was one of those lesser Ascians who doesn't even have a fancy mask) and there's no real point in going back to him. Might be a bummer for some folks, but them's the breaks.

I say it could also be possible that the first Ascian that you defeat in the story (At the end of your respective city quests) could have possibly been him. It never showed his face but all of the Archons recognized his appearance after they removed the mask and the Dark Crystal that was attached to him was destroyed when we approached it. So it could stand to reason that Travanchet was a host and that, upon defeating the possessing Ascian, that he as the vessel was killed. At least that theory would put to rest where he is and why he hasn't shown again in 2.0.
I'd be ok with at least that - just a little something to tie up all the loose ends the shift in direction caused.
