Square Enix didn't make the choice of not allowing steam to sell a physical copy, that is on steam. And even then, nothing is stopping you from buying a physical, its still your choice. Steam is for pc, so isn't it completely possible that you get a pc version not through steam? Either way, you only have to get the physical edition once per account, so you only need one for account-wide benefits

Square has confirmed you cannot use any other edition when you bought the original on Steam, so he can only get the steam version.

He can still buy the physical product. The game code simply wouldn't be compatible.
It's like buying the PS4 expansion pack when you only have the PC version. It's a different medium, even if both are on the PC.

If you register a license, you'll get the stuff, you just won't be able to play it. Different things. never did I say that the pc version would work on a steam account, but he can buy either a combo of both arr+heavensward, or pc and steam versions of heavensward, either way, he only needs one CE for account wide benefits

If you are referring to the point when I specified steam as a pc thing, so he can get the pc version and play that, I simply meant that he can get a pc version not through steam, without needing any other concole/platforms. He would still need the pc version of both arr and heavensward, but he already has a pc, so platform isn't an issue.
