So Europe misses out on a boxed CE of Heavansward? (PS3)

Production costs arent much of an excuse at this stage given the sales and paid account numbers, this must be raking in millions of dollars/pounds a month in subs

...yeah, more like they shouldn't be much of an excuse. But look at how many times we're still being given the answer "small dev team" or "hardware/server/infrastructure limitations" - basically just as much as in the first weeks/months after launch. (Re: housing, again, just to mention one example.) So yeah, I don't know how much common sense and logic apply here.

Also, regardless of what Yoshi said or didn't say - the fact that PS3 is gonna be dropped sometime in the future is pretty much given. The thing's close to its 9th birthday, which is a very long time in tech. And there's already a list of things they needed (and still need) to tweak because of the PS3. If FFXIV has a life of 10 or more years, we can pretty safely assume PS3 support will be dropped somewhere during that time. No need for Yoshi to comment on it in any way for that.

I'm a PC player, but I do plan on getting a PS4 for FFXV and Kingdom Hearts III and have been considering getting FFXIV for it too. There are no games on it I want right now, but there will be, and I never got a PS3 because XIII never interested me and there wasn't that much I wanted to play on that system... And I've been waiting on KHIII for like 15 years now. If it was on PS 3 maybe...

I know and accept that the PS3 is on its last legs, its almost 9 and is way under powered by now - but its the double standard that burns with the choice to not release a boxed CE over here. Their already releasing the expansion on it though and releasing the boxed editions in NA/JP terrories, it wouldnt burn so much if that wasnt the case :/
At least Konami just decided not to release any collectors editions of MGSV on PS3 in any market, that doesnt hurt so much lol.

Also yeah I plan to upgrade to PC/PS4 at some point but for the moment I cant afford to, also theres not enough games i want to justify the expense of new hardware at the moment.

A lot of companies do it ... Apple does it for the iphones ... they drop support after so long when a new phone comes out because they just don't want to keep trying to support an older model. And it will be for just 1 game, yes, it is still new so the PS3 will have more games to look at, but once companies want to stop making PS3 games (like PS1 and PS2) then more support will be dropped.

Yes, it is very expensive at $400, but look at getting a refurbished or used model, they are cheaper than buying outright new and work just as well. (100% of all my phones are always refurbished.)

Just slowly start saving. You have time and the PS4 is an awesome system with a lot of amazing games already.

I am not sure if you can use PS1-3 games on the PS4, but I know some old old PS1 games are supported in the Sony Store.

There is no backwards compatibility on PS4. Some titles may be available to stream through Playstation Now or playable digitally from the SE store though.

No, they probably are dropping the PS3 at some point. They've made that very clear. Keeping the game playable on such outdated hardware really holds them back from doing everything they'd like to do with the game.

Really the offer of a free upgrade is a pretty good indicator that they are planning to drop support at some time.

Hoping to migrate as many people as can or would be willing to continue on the platforms they wish to continue to support thus minimizing the number if lost accounts from dropping the older platform.


And personally I hope they do, their stubborn stance on the PS2 and FFXI hamstrung it for years but that was slightly more defendable as PS2 was more popular in Japan than Xbox360 and PC and in that case as it was completely different formats, they couldn't offer a free upgrade to mitigate dropping support , but the PS4 is wildly popular and phasing out the PS3 everywhere and they could offer a free upgrade as it was within the same network, more or less like just giving you a new cd key., so there is lesser reason to hold on to support for an aging platform that has and shown the potential to hamstring development.


And also, in this case using "may", "maybe" etc. is more than likely marketing speak. Reading between the lines he's basically saying yes, but is not wanting to cause a call for exact dates, panic, and declarations of "the sky is falling" and is therefore using wishy washy non-committal language so he doesn't have to go through all that
