Of course here in XIV you have to register and connect your PS3/PS4 and PC license. For XIV you are literally buying it for that platform, SE just lets you connect the two if you want. If you don't connect them, your PS and PC accounts are completely separate which means no sharing of character data etc. Granted I don't know many MMOs other than ESO and XI and XIV that are cross platform. And in ESO console and pc are separated.
