You hurt my feelings. You're a stupid example!!that's really stupid example
you should say "I bought gas to drive my car on 1st street, do I have to buy gas again to drive on 2nd street ?"
and people keep BSing us because they only play on one device, for me I need to go home every weekend and it's not possible for me to carry my whole PC gaming set up to home every week, so I use the same account my account to play the same game with the same save date on the same server and same everything, not fair to pay again... I'm not new costumer nor I'm making new account!
HAHA! Perfect analogy!
But really guys, just because you bought the original game on two systems doesn't entitle you to the expansions for free on 1 or the other...
History with expansions on FFXI. Brought to you by Nestama.
Some years back, I bought FFXI for the PC on Steam. It came with all expansions and the Abyssea add-ons (before Adoulin). Some time throughout the year, my laptop decided it didn't want to live on this planet, so I decided to buy FFXI for the X360. The disc I bought only came with expansions leading to ToAU (did not need the code), which meant I could NOT access Wings of the Goddess zones, nor the Abyssea zones, as they were a part of that expansion. So I bought the WotG expansion from eBay and was set to play the game (again, did not need the code, as everything was already registered to my account). Some time later, Adoulin comes out and I buy it for the X360. A year passes and I finally get myself a PC that can handle games. Although I have not re-downloaded FFXI from my Steam account yet, I already know I will need to buy Adoulin for the PC just to access the new zones (and Jobs).
Although I did not need the codes for WotG to play on the 360 (PS2, X360 and PC are all linked to the same SE account), I still needed the disc to install the data. Likewise for when I buy Adoulin for the PC. Won't need the code, but WILL need the install data.
tl;dr: Nothing in this world is free. Deal with it.

Yes.. It's been like that on FFXI, Diabolo III, HD remakes of Halo, Fallout, Mine Craft, Skyrim and pretty much every ting from ElderScrolls have always been like that when it comes to multy platform. You're buying it for the platform. However in the sense of Online MMO's your character data is shared so long as the platforms are interconnected. Like FFXI was on PC, PS3(minor), PS2, 360 and FFXIV is on PC, PS3, PS4, and soon Apple. Aside from that you might get away with buying 1 PC software package and installing it on several PC's. As long as the accounts used are valid, all you'ld be doing then is paying for more than one account or character.
Of course here in XIV you have to register and connect your PS3/PS4 and PC license. For XIV you are literally buying it for that platform, SE just lets you connect the two if you want. If you don't connect them, your PS and PC accounts are completely separate which means no sharing of character data etc. Granted I don't know many MMOs other than ESO and XI and XIV that are cross platform. And in ESO console and pc are separated. However in the sense of Online MMO's your character data is shared so long as the platforms are interconnected. I'll keep that in mind when I grab the bundle for pc. (Really, I am going to buy a PC copy if theres a good deal for a bundle. I didn't know that detail about connecting them on the account. I thought it was just logging on with the existing account)Of course here in XIV you have to register and connect your PS3/PS4 and PC license. Really,? I heard ESO for ps4 needed the PS Plus to run and might go partial f2p, but the console versions are all isolated?

No different from XI at all. I always had to buy both the PC and 360 versions. I would've been surprised if it weren't this way.
How i understand it you only needed the discs for both platform but only 1 key.
So it was only neccessary to buy the game twice if you didn't know anyone who have it already for the other platform to install it.
The PSN account get linked to the SE account
After installing ARR on a PS and starting it, it ask you if you want to connect it to an already existing SE account or if you want to connect it to a new SE account. It can then only login to the SE account that is connected to it. To login to another SE account you have to create a new PSN account (and get a new key if it is not yet registered on the other SE account).
Because it also come for Xbox One. Microsoft don't like multiplatform games.I heard ESO for ps4 needed the PS Plus to run and might go partial f2p, but the console versions are all isolated?

And threads about this still keep popping up...? I really fail to see why people are so surprised about this.
PC, or rather Windows, is oneplatformsystem - let's say two, because there's also Steam. PS4 is another system - and I assume PS3 is too. X1 is yet another system. OSX's gonna be, again, another system. That's 5(+1) different systems the game has to be developed for, which is resources, time and money, all of which has to be paid.
They all have their own online account management, their own servers, their own network, their own authentications. Your SE account has you linked to the servers where your characters, savegames and platform-licenses are stored. That's it, that's all there is to it, that's what you access when you log in and link something to your SE account. If you enter a PC code, it will know that you bought the game for PC (either bare Windows or Steam), it will allow you to play on PC. It will not magically enable you to download and play on PS4, because you have not entered a PS4 code - also Sony's own network won't have its database refreshed from SE's servers that you have bought the game, so Sony will have no idea either. Same applies to X1 and the same will apply to Mac.
I really don't know why this is such a difficult concept to grasp. Especially when it's been the same with ARR last year. (The upgrade campaign has been a special deal, I'd guess both because Sony wanted to make its new console as appealing as possible and because SE wanted to help its players, well, upgrade.)
