A couple of problems I have with Corguevais that I have no answer for: Why during the quest lines does he wear two different outfits (see below for pictures, no other character has done this)? And why would an outsider Ala Mhigan have such a prominent role in a parade as the Goobbue handler (or something along the lines of keeping the Goobbue asleep). Corguevais would be an outsider, Ul'dah wouldn't have put a refugee in this kind of position.

Greinfarr says the 2nd set of robes remind him of what Garleans wear. Dunno where he would have seen one except maybe from an envoy as I doubt he had been to the recently occupied Ala Mhigo.

As for Greinfarr and Frenzy, it just says Gerolt created 2 swords for Gladiator champions. Greinfarr had Frenzy as the Gladiator GM/Champion the other we never knew of but after Nielle's downfall we only know Greinfarr was trying to work behind the scenes to re-steal the Heartstrike but we don't know if he still had his sword. He either gave it up after he left the Gladiator guild or was captured and had to give up the sword, since he's in Halatali now he was probably captured. Aldis then becomes champ and obtains Frenzy. But rather than becoming a puppet for Lord Lolorito he just exiles himself, taking the sword with him.

Greinfarr also shows up in the Armorer story-line and since you can complete that at any point in the time-line in relation to Halatali HM I don't think he's a noxius since he seems free to come and go.

Which makes me wonder exactly how he survived, as the last he was seen in 1.0 was during the 1.0 GLA class quests where he tried to flee to Gridania with J'moldva (the legendary Ala Mhigan miqo'te GLA 'The Hellfire Phoenix'), after Greinfarr threw a high stakes Colleseum fight between the two in order to placate the frenzied crowds who were betting against J'moldva, a mere Ala Mhigan refugee (J'moldva technically won the battle, although sustaining serious injuries). The two encountered a unit of Wood Wailers in the Black Shroud who refused to render medical assistance to the gravely injured miqo'te (stubbornly stating that "Ul'dah's blood quarrels are not their concern" and that she would "die a warrior's death"), which triggered an angry response from Greinfarr, who drew Frenzy and charged the LNCs.

Unfortunately, this was all in an Echo vision and the Echo scene ended after that without any further explanation about what happened to him. J'moldva ended up surviving and actually cast aside the sword to take up the lance as a Wood Wailer herself, but her comments suggested at the time that Greinfarr actually died that day - stating that "Greinfarr gave his life for her and that she intends to live up to his legacy." Which makes his survival in ARR all the more puzzling.

Of course it could easily be retconned that Greinfarr managed to beat the Wood Wailers (or was beaten himself and left for dead, but somehow survived and managed to return to Ul'dah), but it still doesn't explain J'moldva's belief that he was dead (nor does it explain how Greinfarr lost Frenzy to Aldis). But I guess, as they say, we'll find out. I hope... (tries lighting the 'ahriman signal')

Course, but they don't live in Halatali. They're just forced to work there, see Mumuepo in terms of being sent there for Ul'dah reasons. There's a reason Greinfarr wears a mask to hide his identity but his armor is unique to himself. Wood Wailers also use masks Enkidoh, maybe he picked up something from them. But it's clear he is alive. A question to be asked is if he still misses Nielle and maybe reunited with F'lahminn if Nielle is to "return."

They really should implement Echo cutscenes of 1.0 scenes like these if they're still going to be relevant in A Realm Reborn and/or Heavensward.

I would really love to know where the story was heading. I like the ARR Story so far and the Nael Part in 1.0 was nice, but I really wonder what the story would have looked like if everything went like planned.

It's just so difficult to say, really, because it never "went as planned". The game launched missing enormous chunks of the content that had been planned for launch during development (and even shown in trailers), and then even before Yoshida was brought on and some changes were made to the upper-level staffing, the development team was far too busy trying to beat the game into something resembling working order to advance the plotline at all. Like, unless I'm tremendously mistaken (I didn't have the fortitude to stick around for early 1.0), there wasn't any additional story content added until after Yoshida came on and began the Seventh Umbral Era plotline.

So it's really hard to say what shape the "original" storyline might have taken, because the game frankly needed to release in 2011 or 2012 to actually ship with the intended content. At no point in time was FFXIV 1.0, as released, going "as planned".

Apologies if this is common knowledge, but how was Thancred in the Echo cutscene in the beginning of the 1.0 storyline in Ul'dah? He looked exactly the same as he does in the present, but Ascilia was a child.

I also heard that the Scions (at least in 1.0) were supposed to be unaging, and in Urianger's case at least, possibly thousands of years old (according to TVTropes, anyway. There are supposedly rumors that he was involved in an umbral calamity 1500 years ago). Was that definite fact in 1.0? Any hints of it being carried over into 2.x? Is this related to my question above?

Lots of fans theorized that the Scions - or anyone with the same neck tattoo (G'raha and Moenbryda too, maybe?) had connections to the Twelve. Do people still believe this, or has it been debunked?

Or has everything been retconned with 2.0?

In 1562 he was 17, he's 32 now (and clearly has a Peter Pan complex).

That was (probably) entirely a lie. The VIIth Legion was doing a good job shaking things up in Eorzea, so Thancred, Yda, Papalymo, and Y'shtola needed a distraction while they went about convincing the city-states to re-establish the Grand Companies and unite. That distraction was Urianger - a socially awkward guy who cryptically speaks using archaic words and grammar because he's spent more time with books than people. He teleported around shouting doomsday verses from the Divine Chronicles while people spread rumours that he was an Archon or that he was part of a group of immortal mages selling Eorzean souls to the demon lords of the seven hells for sole dominion over the relam. I'm about 95% sure that it was all just made up so he could rile up Van Darnus (and it totally worked; the legatus himself showed up interviewing players trying to hunt him down).

That's all based on the original Hatching-tide lore, which claimed the Archons were earthly manifestations of the Twelve who'd ride giant eggs to Eorzea and save us all from the Calamity. Since then, we've seen normal flesh and blood Sharlayans called the Archons and it seems to just be a title.

    If I had to guess
, I'd say that educated history-keepers are often at the forefront of saving people from an Umbral Era, and that the ones from other eras end up remembered as divine beings - angels - messengers of the gods' will - because myth gets bigger and bigger as time goes on. So a new umbral era comes, the history-keepers show back up, and everyone's like "THE ANGELS HAVE RETURNED!" while the old Archon's great great great great great great great great grandkids are just like, "Sure, we'll go with that for now, please just start planning a defense."

Better yet, just rig a time-travel-ish mechanic into the storyline ... I mean Square(soft) has done that before(Think about FF8.) We don't actually need to go over the entire V1.0 storyline, just the parts that have relevant characters.

    Like for example...
F'lhaminn, Minfilia/Ascilia , and Louisoix Leveilleur all have significance to the ARR storyline. So much so that every time Minfilia talks about Louisoix you think you've missed something.

SE could pull this off by pulling a flashback (time-hop) mechanism and let the player play the story (again) with the NPC's point of view/commentary by going to those locations and "looking at the past" or something to that element. It may require SE to partially import some of the V1.0 map data, so I don't think we would see a full re-implementation of the V1.0 introductions, just enough to tell the storyline. The Ul'dah storyline also introduced Thancred, the Limsa storyline introduced Y'shtola, and the Gridania introduction introduced the Moogles, Yda and Papalymo. Though my memories are a bit fuzzy as it seems like they were quickly introduced and disappeared while you went about doing the pre-grand-company quests.

I'd also like to see the Hildibrand stories from V1.0 somehow re-implemented, here's another part of V1.0 where you kinda go "I know he's familiar, but why??" when you are introduced to him.
