nice idea but wrong topic, you don't touch other ppl exclusive thing/itemYeah, I really didn't mean for this to become some intensely heated debate. I just thought, giving 1.0 players was such a cool bonus, why not do something for each expansion? Don't repeat the same things, obviously, but like I said, just kind of giving each "generation" of players their own little signature. The 1.0 bonus will likely always remain the coolest -- and certainly rarest -- but adding additional things for those big events would only add to the game.
Like I said, I'm not sure exactly *what* said reward should be or anything; when I created this topic, I was actually hoping the conversation would be about that, people tossing around fun, purely-vanity ideas.
And some legacy type players need to get off their special snowflake pedestals. His idea is not a bad idea in that he's requesting something special on his character for the change from 2.x to 3.0. Just that it seems silly in that 3.0 is an expansion and not a game rehaul. His bringing the Legacy tattoo into the conversation was certainly not a good starter for the topic but the idea remains the same. He wanted something to show off that he was pre-3.0 as some players are going to come in 3.0 and beyond and he'll want them to know that he played for a much longer time.
Which I'm sure that they will add in something like a portrait or whatever to signify the change of storylines and when new peeps see that, that's when you can cite that you got it from pre 3.0.
<_< Seriously, the 1.0 people who are so into their special selves is...quite...interesting.
PS. As stated earlier, I was alpha and I did some beta though not long enough to be recognized as legacy. Be proud that you supported the game but don't be crazy about your exclusive item either that the thought of entertaining another one for other people (which would also include you) is instantly awful. >_>
then answer this question, with the veteran reward already present, why give something for the "end" of the 2.x series? i means the mark was more like way to see who was there before the game was totally changed.... but didn't offer anything special (most of the gears hide it) you say that legacy want to keep them special snowflake pedestals, but what the op as is a special snowflake pedestals, when the veteran reward are there for this.
like i have said before the story don't end really, we simply continue with heavenward.... then why add something for mark a non existant ending?
I don't agree with having a new tattoo partly because I don't want to look like my character belongs in a biker gang several years from now if one comes with every expansion <.<
More seriously, I'd only want something like that if it fit naturally within the story for another such mark to appear. It'd have to be on a different place on the body too of course, so 1.0 vets and the ARR-only players could both be accommodated. However, I agree muchly with Terin; I think it's be really cool of each generation of the game offered a limited time reward for sticking with it before the next one. It could even be incentive to keep people around to a degree (years later you can say I have a legacy chocobo, an X, a Y, AND a Z and newbies will be all "whooooaaaaah"). Ideally I wouldn't want a repeat of 1.0's bonuses; those people deserve their reward and deserve for it to be unique. I think something in a similar vein could be a fun mile marker, however.
When I originally came to this thread, I gave my opinion on Page 2 and in it, I mentioned that I didn't believe that any reward for playing 2.0 and into the expansion was necessary. I still personally don't believe it's necessary. The veterans are fine to say who played for whatever time duration.then answer this question, with the veteran reward already present, why give something for the "end" of the 2.x series? i means the mark was more like way to see who was there before the game was totally changed.... but didn't offer anything special (most of the gears hide it) you say that legacy want to keep them special snowflake pedestals, but what the op as is a special snowflake pedestals, when the veteran reward are there for this.
You don't need to pose any questions to me when we agree with each other. We don't need a 2.0 to 3.0 marking on us. Nothing technically at the moment is happening to our characters that promotes the idea of a marking.
My argument was to Shneibel though who said that no one could touch the exclusive status of the tattoo by suggesting anything similar, inciting the special snowflake response.
I personally can see why the OP wants something special besides wanting a tattoo. 1.0 > 2.0 it came with something on the character model for those lucky enough.
Note: There's lore behind the tattoo, hence why they have it and 2.0 to 3.0 wouldn't and shouldn't. As of now, nothing is happening to us or the game. 1.0 > 2.0 signifies something happened but that doesn't give any legacy people with the tattoo to squawk about how special they are with their tattoos and how no one CAN EVER HAVE A TATTOOOMG!!!!111!!!
The transition of 2.0 > 3.0 , the OP wants something on his character model to signify that. There's nothing wrong with wanting it...The OP just had the bad idea to bring up the legacy tattoo as a means to get the point across.
Ryuroots honestly has the correct understanding. There's nothing wrong with wanting something to signify each generation as they already signified one generation previously.

How come is this even an argument?
IMO, many people in this thread should get off their special snowflake pedestal and stop asking for a cooking for every single thing they do in the game. It's an expansion, they're not revamping the game. Make an one-time event with some cosmetic and that's it. All cutesy snowflakes will get their shinies and the new players won't (kinda ironic uh...), but we 2.0 players shouldn't get something on the same level of what legacy players received. It's kind of ugly to envy others so much...
Because there's nothing wrong with asking? That might be why it's a debate.
Clearly you didn't read my post right above yours where we basically say the exact same thing as each other. That's alright.
In all honesty, this topic had no chance to be what the OP stated that he wanted because it tread too close to the legacy exclusivity and status that they are so fervent in protecting and upholding. Hell, I remember the riots from the Slyph goobbue and how legacy people were upset that that mount was being brought back to the game (albeit in a slightly different form).
And I can understand why he wants something to signify his own generation. Nothing wrong with it. They made 1.0 people feel special. He wants 2.0 people to feel special too. Where is the harm in that?
The 1.0 legacy is there and everyone knows it via the tattoo...but...that doesn't mean that nothing can ever be done in the future that's similar to it in terms of marking a character. 1.0 Legacy doesn't get to just own that forever.
You know what? This is honestly my b. Your original post came off as sarcastic and snooty to me. It was also devoid of a clear side that you were on so the wording came off as slightly entitled. My b, yo.
An item that you can only get for completing the 2.0 main story sure.
But a body mark no. Its more than a status symbol it shows we stuck with a broken version (do not take the lag and server stability of 2.0 into this account) of the game and not only stayed with it but subed for the last phase of 1.0.
We committed to a game that we no one was sure would survive the reboot.
People on here just saying give me this when the game isn't being taken down for over half a year no just no.
