Depends on the look you are going for.

I would suggest deciding on a look then going through the Market board to try on different pieces to help. Or you can also try the XIVDB model viewer to try on everything afaik, but make sure you only pick crafting and caster wearable pieces.

Some seasonal items like valentione work well with crafting pieces.

This. The "Try on" feature is godly.
Remember, though, the Market Board only deals in what's able to be sold. You've got a lot of dungeon gear (even if typically recolored versions of things that can be sold) and turn-in gear that can put a completely new spin on items, as well as achievement / seasonal reward pieces.

It still doesn't tell us what kind of look you're going for. Fancy? Revealing? Just pretty? Scholar-like?

My biggest advice as a somewhat hardcore glamor nerd would be to just try things on using the try-on feature just to get an idea how they look on your character. Do it with the market board, and by checking other players if you happen to see them wearing something interesting. Also I keep vanity items on a retainer and the try-on feature can be really convenient for testing out how things look paired with other pieces of gear without having to shuffle them around and equip them. Also keep in mind that a lot of things can be dyed to color-coordinate with the rest of the outfit.

It's also good to have an idea of what kind of style you're going for, or just pick one piece of gear or color as a base and build around it.
For example, my current set on blm. This was built around Allagan tunic of casting, and the colors loam brown and pastel pink:


Also, doing a little research on gear pieces you like the look of and how to obtain them can go a long way too. Not everything can be bought on the market board or the cash shop. See something you think will look great with your current gear set, look it up, find out where it drops from and go after it.

Without knowing exactly what the OP is going for, it's kind of hard to start just pointing out sch gear, ya know. I'm not going to create an encyclopedia on sch gear since I don't play the job anyway, but I figured I could at least give an idea of my thought processes while putting together my glamors, and that might give them some inspiration to do something similar with what they have.

There are a few items like the death mask, "fedora" which can only be achieved via quests/achievements.

Use the XIVmodel viewer to view almost everything on a race, it will make things a little easier.

Nope, you don't. Simply because the OP doesn't even know him/herself. But what you're doing is basically: "Hey I don't have any cars to recommend you but I can show you my motorcycle!". Which isn't helping at all.
