Free to Play would make me quit as well, played enough MMORPGs that took this route and they all went way downhill after the change. I'll pass on the pay to win crap and longer turnaround for new content. No Thanks, there will always be other options if this happens but I sincerely hope it never does..

I'm sorry but since when is Destiny F2P? You have to buy the game ergo pay to buy it...World of Tanks due to its simplistic game engine is a good game but I wouldn't chock that up to another victory for F2P.

I put F2Ps into several categories.

1) F2Ps full of ads with the main goal of mining data and collecting ad revenue

2) Testing a game engine that the company is not sure will be popular in an actual game (sort of a survey if you will)

And of course my favorite (meaning the kind I despise the most)

3) The Bait and Switch F2P which is a crappy game unless you pay $100 which essentially turns it into an overpriced normal game. God, will I never download these games and may your god save you if you ever enjoy one of these games...

And there is also FFXI that is still running on a P2P model. THAT game will go free to play before FFXIV ever will.

XI has a lot of people like me who continue to pay a subscription for a game they no longer play.

Part of me knows I should just cancel it, but another part of me likes the idea of keeping SE in enough money to keep the servers plugged in.

WoW isn't going F2P anytime soon because Blizzard doesn't want to give up like 8 million x $14.99 = 119m a month, plus all the money people spend in the cash shop on mounts/pets, race changes, server transfers ect.

What about the F2P success stories? Like World of Tanks and Destiny. Hmm? If a F2P failed, it was because it was a BAD GAME to begin with. Not because it wasn't P2P.

Some F2P games last longer than others, but in a F2P game you are either a whale or you are content for a whale. Individual players are nothing more then cattle meant to sustain the environment for the idiots willing to pay thousands of dollars for pixels.

What Magis said is true. A subcription game converting to F2P or B2P should be considered a failure. If the game launches as F2P then at least the Dev is being honest about being a snake oil salesman.

I agree, if this game goes F2P I'd have to call it quits, we saw what the free weekend (9 days long) brought, increase of RMT add /tells had to keep my status as busy almost the whole time, F2P would be a nightmare, also been guilty of playing F2P games in the past before XIV and won't go that route again, but I highly doubt we'll see a F2P model for XIV.

Destiny isn't truly free to play. You have to pay for patch content every few months. Paying for content every 2-3 months is no different than patch content being completely free for FFXIV with a monthly fee.
