    Though I'd still hope it doesn't disallow for the freedom of crafters being able to access all the recipes; it's just asking for trouble when it comes to balancing crafted equipment and consumables.

    I agree with all the other posters that are concerned if this means I can no longer cap all my crafting and gathering classes to access all of the DoH and DoL content.

    There is nothing in this game that forces you to specialize in a specific DoM or DoW job to the exclusion of the others. Why do it for DoH / DoL?

    As far as economy goes, maybe you don't realize that crafters are the ones making the most transactions - both buy and sell. While I can farm anything, it would be silly for me to do so. I'll buy shards, other mats, etc and farm only when it is economical (in gil and in time) to do so. Changing to an exclusionary system for crafters will do nothing to change this.

    I guess we could see the writing on the wall when desynth was added in a way so that you could not cap the skill across all disciplines. Maybe they've added more FFXI people to the Dev team (this was definitely the way crafting was done in that game). That would be a sad trend.

    And how will that change with specialty crafting? It won't.

    I'm all for working together, but it'd be sad to be forced to always work together, i.e. once you choose a specialization, you will need stuff made by other specializations to be able to make everything in your own specialization. That would be sad, very sad.

    Personally if it ends up being an exclusive system, I'm just going to level alts for the specializations and shake my head at Yoshida-san. Why? Not because I don't like co-operative play. But because for me, the lure of crafting is in the idea of a Master Craftsman that can do everything. It is like a personal achievement for me, and the FFXIV crafting system caught my eye very early on entirely due to being able to do all crafts on one character.

    Being forced to rely on others, versus relying on others because you choose to, feels completely different.

    If you don't do that already you just have terrible social skills and a forced specialization is not going to change that. Working together = buy stuff from the MB. If you don't talk to people now, you won't after as well.

    This socialization argument is nonsense. You don't need a reason to talk to people but wanting to.

    He didn't say talk to others. He said work together. There's no real need for more than a single crafter among friends. Anyone close to me has no need to level a craft, because I can just craft everything for them.

    And what does "working together" mean then? Because either you get to know someone, befriend them and decide to work together and share the grind, which people already do, or you buy stuff from the MB, which people already do as well! Either way there's no benefit in specializing, it only pisses people off.

    So is the argument that people won't be able to do all of the content because of an overhaul of the crafting system. I'll make an FFXI comparison: Just because I choose not to skill-up Carpenter doesn't mean that I couldn't be a Ranger because I couldn't make my own arrows. It just meant that I'd have to buy arrows that someone else made, and even that only applied to such arrows as could only be made by someone with exceptionally high Carpenter skills, since I had access to skill everything up to 60 myself.

    If people are already purchasing items that are made by other crafters, then what the heck is the difference with having to buy "specialty" items made by other crafters?

    Ah, but will facing north-by-northeast at 2:45 a.m. while the moon is a waning crescent result in a 27% increase in your chances to synthesize HQ mythril ingots!? That is real the question! ~Fernehalwes~

    So many people see things in only absolutes around here. Yes, some people may already do this, but it is an increase in the amount of it. It's not merely a case of "they do or they don't." It's also the amount of it.

    People =/= You

    Don't pretend you know what other people feel about the situation. Personally I'm glad it will give me more reasons to expand my networks for reasons beyond socializing.
