When I started I thought I could specialise one craft, not realising that in order to make any good stuff I'd have to level a bunch of other stuff too. I really thought the idea was to specialise in one craft then use your fc and friends if you needed other crafts and maybe work together if you needed to make something big. I was really disappointed with the grind everything mentality (yes I know, welcome to MMOs) I was hoping for something more imaginative.

God, this argument is so... straw-man. The ability to play, do well in, and defeat this game's content doesn't exactly revolve around any one character's ability to wield a DoH tool (unless you are secretly Godbert Manderville). Only one character is needed to play this game's content and that is all that will ever be required of anyone. People aren't whining that they won't be able to "do everything as advertised". They're whining that they won't be able to craft everything that SE ever puts into the game that has a recipe associated with it.

So yeah... the argument about "doing everything with one character" is irrelevant. Even with a change, you can still complete all of the game's content with just one character. All this change amounts to is that a crafter might actually have to buy something from someone else at some point. Big freakin' deal.

The quote you quoted was my husbands opinion(SE makes us post on the same account from account linking.. Though I do agree with him to a extent) However not to make this sound like I want any FFXI-2 (I hope the whole debacle for that goes away soon, this is exactly how XI did it.People were still able to level everything and even every craft class. The only exception is only "one" craft class could go to max level. They are just running things as they have from XI to here. Though there are many new features and changes between the two games, there is a great deal of similaritys too.

Though I wouldn't expect everyone to remember this or that one had to have played in 1.0 even under the previous game designer it was already brought up that crafting would turn out like this. They had already mentioned that they had every intention of making everyone "max" on one craft alone, as was done in XI. Though this seems disappointing now it's not going to ruin the game so to speak. Yes it's nice to be able to do everything yourself but crafting profits are very low here(a month after a recipe is released) compared to XI where this crafting system was originally implemented. In honesty you will get used to it, after you choose a craft you wish to max out. The benifits being that people will help each other more. As one mentioned before im sure all of you have that one friend who crafts all the time and makes everyones every things. wouldn't it be nice if you had a chance to make a name for yourself as well? Even if it means you can only get one craft to max you can still level "everything" in the game but like most dow/m eventually your going to have to choose one you like the most to gear out the most. I suppose I could continue speaking circles against a obviously upset crowd but as someone who has already played this system before and knew it was expected to be added on since 2010 all I can say is though your upset now, I promise you, in the end it isn't so bad. you'll get used to it.. and eventually you'll enjoy that you no longer have to compete with every other max all crafts crafter on your server.

Tldr: It will get better, don't worry ♥ Not everyone deals with change the best but once your used to the system you will likely feel better about it^^

I'm all for this if it's one spec. per character or two or whatever. I'm an omnicrafter and have loved it but frankly it's getting ridiculous to gear it up. The work and time to get them all up to par isn't worth the turnaround the last two times. Being all SELF SUFFICIENT is swell but it's an MMO, the idea is that you're supposed to rely on others. So the idea of having to network a bit with other crafters feels like a great step to me.

But to a crafter, that IS playing the content.

We'll just see an influx of alts once expansion comes if the specialization takes effect. I just hope the specialized crafts are tradable.

Time consuming perhaps, but I've never lost money due to going up a tier in crafting.. Even without having sold a single thing on my BSM, I still saved myself about 4m gil by making my own artisan off hands and there's more to be saved once I start making furniture.

In fairness, the both of us are main crafters with all crafts to 50 on 3 characters. Thus being said like all dow/m were just forced to take into consideration which we like the most(or find the most profitable) I also have no doubt items will be tradeable. It's the only way the system works^^:

Ah, but will facing north-by-northeast at 2:45 a.m. while the moon is a waning crescent result in a 27% increase in your chances to synthesize HQ mythril ingots!? That is real the question! ~Fernehalwes~

Honestly, when the game was released I loved crafting, but they keep ruining it to appease the people whining about everyone being able to craft everything so they can't jack up prices and have a "good economy".
Ive already started levelling crafting on a couple alts, my body will be ready

With the proposed new system, I might be useful to my friends on one class at least, even if this other person spends 10 times more hours on crafting, I will have a specialization to make me the go-to person for that particular thing. We will still be able to use every class on one character, just not to the maximum extent.
So let me get this straight. You want to be the go to person like your friend is now without investing all the time to do it?

It being an mmo is precisely the reason why a high level crafter would strive to be self-sufficient. Aiming for such a goal could be considered a crafters endgame.

But not one class. You cannot advance through the Main Scenario quests without a DoW/DoM. Nor could I start the Ixal quests untill I got one to 41+ (or was it 46+?), despite having a level 50 weaver.
That is what they said about the crafting rework back in 1.0. I still miss components.
As far as liking it more. I don't have that many hours played yet, with all that I have left to work towards; I don't think I'll much ''like'' having to level atleast 2 more characters to lv50+ 4 star.

This would go against their whole motif of letting a single account have access to all classes and whatnot. If they are forcing us now to only excel at one instead of others... I can forsee lots of people leaving or conjuring a megaflare whine fest.
