New jobs do not start at level 1

Massively who interviewed Yoshi P at Pax says the new jobs will not start at level 1. Must get to level 30 on something else to unlock them.

While Yoshida would not reveal the main stats of the new jobs, he did say that you will not be able to start playing one at level 1. As with other jobs, you have to reach level 30 first and do job quests to unlock them. As these extra jobs do not have base classes, the team is still making decisions about what level players will start at with them, although we likely will not be starting fresh from level 1.
Seems like it will be like a hero jobs in other mmos where you start at a higher level. I think this is actually pretty good cause the low levels are not to fun to level through.

...yeah, the new jobs are now officially the weirdest thing this game has come up with so far... and I've seen Hildibrand in a dress.

I should note the phrase 'likely will not'. It seems like you're required to level to 30 bare minimum to unlock the new jobs - the question is, what level brackets will they supply? Low level dungeons are hell if you're a DPS and it'd be a direly missed opportunity to not encourage DRK and AST play in vanilla dungeons.

We will most likely start them as 30 as that is where the other jobs begin as well. Or at the very least 15. It kinda makes sense really. All the new areas will be 50+ zones, so leveling three new jobs withouth quests would be a huge pain in the ass. If we begin when at least Sastasha has been unlocked we can skip the boring part.

Seems like common practice among MMO?
Reapers in Tera starts pretty close to level cap, and Death Knight in WoW too? I dunno, never played WoW

Death Knights start at 55, which was the beginning of the level range for the expansion pack they launched in (at that time the level cap was 70, but the new content started from 58, so DKs basically skipped all the old zones and went straight into the new stuff).

Death Knights started at a high level because it was originally supposed to be a "transformation" of your character. Your character of level 55 or higher would turn into the Death Knight. This idea got scrapped pretty early on (pre-technical alpha) because of how many people didn't want to lose their character to play the new class.

However, I don't personally see the new jobs starting at 30+ as a good idea. Sure, it's a little silly for EDGY THE DARKLORD to go fight lambs and ladybugs to level up, but at the same time, it's important to keep the lower level sections of the game active. You can see this on WoW now with the "pay for level 90 boost" that they added. Low level zones are utterly devoid of players (except for botters who don't care), and low level dungeons actually have significant queue times depending on your battlegroup.

I'm in two minds about this.

As someone above mentioned its a complete pain in the ass to level up new classes/jobs without a plethora of sidequests, grinding dungeons and fate is really monotonous.

So in some sense starting at 30 will appease that to some extent, that being said they could just provide a bunch of new quests or make previous quests independent for each class, either that or just make a bunch of new repeatable quests for all level ranges.

Am I the only person who enjoyed leveling?

I'll never understand the lack of quests complaint either... You have Levequests. Use them. Between FATEs, Dungeons and Levequests, I found leveling Ninja anything but monotonous. If I'm going to start these new Jobs with them already half way to the cap, then that's just going to mean I end up enjoying them less... At least leveling them means I can play them. I'm certainly not going to be able to play all three once they're capped.

I get why they're doing it though, but I still just find Jobs in this game needlessly confusing... Why give them no base Class? If I need Gladiator 30 and Thaumaturge 15 to unlock Dark Knight... Just make Gladiator the base Class and revamp the damn system so Jobs have a bigger impact on Class skills... Flash turns to Darkness, like Yoshi suggested. Yes Scholar/Summoner wasn't so hot, that's because you did practically nothing with the concept though... Change the pets and that was it...

Sad part is, I remember seeing a thing about SE talking about having a boost to 50 :/ Which would make no sense to even have that. It's not like it's hard to level. If you really try, you can get 1-50 in 2-3 days, even if you only do it a few hours a day, it'll still take less than a week.

If they did that, then look forward to having people 50+ who have no idea what they're doing...oh wait, we already have that lol
