I would disagree with that. It's winning big because you don't really need to even be playing the game, and you still get tons of experience (over time). Kind of like botting.


I'm not really sure what my own opinion on this exploit is tho. Being a crafter who massproduces a lot I can understand why people afk race. On the other hand I can also understand those penalized by having to wait 30 seconds longer for their next match. That would be a 25% increase in time it takes them to rank up.

Well I mean, don't get me wrong, it's not like I'm saying you're not coming out ahead for abusing the system like that. It's just that it doesn't seem to be too detrimental for now, since it doesn't affect your personal progress (other than having to wait for the DNF to kick in and the intro scenes most likely), and indirectly helps your finish place sometimes. If people start to bot, then that's something to be reported for sure (3rd party program, afterall). Or if it gets out of hand, then from a developers standpoint, something definitely needs to be done.

This isn't exactly the same case as it was in WoW with Alterac Valley PvP, where AFKers for a 40v40 match were 36 AFK vs 35 AFK or so. THAT was bad and hindered your progress since matches could take forever or were impossible to finish (meaning little to no rewards for legit players). Speaking from having experienced that (and pretty much had no choice but to join them to keep my sanity going), I really am indifferent on this one. Again, at least unless it gets out of hand. If it turns out you should report this behavior, then GREAT... I encourage everyone to do so, as I probably will too if can figure out who it is with no names available other than the bird LOL. Otherwise, I'm just neutral on it.

Same with the crafting. Seriously, if it weren't for the macros, I'd go batshit crazy making 1-star HQ mats. I see them as separate things though, due to one being a personal act that literally affects no one but you. One could argue economic benefit, but that's the end result that may go on the market board. Then again, it may just go on the retainer. It may get turned into a different item/equip. Whereas AFK in the races, the act itself already interacts with others play (be it rewarding positively for them or otherwise).

Well, I do believe it costs 50 MGP to race at all, and it takes getting at least 6th place to get that 50 back. So I don't see how they are accomplishing any thing.

Heck I didn't remember. I ran like.... 5 races before I got bored of Gold Saucer Entirely. Turns out I despise Triple Triad in FF14 just as much as I did in FF8 and Choco Racing is just as tedious and un rewarding as it was in FF10. Not even sure if I'll make 8000 MGP by the time my sub Expires on the 18th.

Not all that sure why people are exploiting this. I mean you nees to be there to accept the race... The most you get afk is like 2-3 mins. Hardly enough time to make a coffee... Or am I missing something?

Chocobo race is easy as heck to bot if you want to, and people use it to farm MGPs while they're at work/sleeping/doing something else.

40 points every 5 mins you're not playing, that's 480 points per hour, which is nice enough in the "must get <insert shiny long term MGP reward here>" race for people to start abusing it.

Just like people bought their way to the TT tournament in order to get the lightning card.

I have seen people complaining about this, but as of yet, none of them have offered any kind of rational argument about how this hurts them or impacts their progress negatively.

Because game design that encourages non-interaction as the most rational way to earn a reward is unsustainable game design that will slowly kill the content except for anyone but bots?
