That or they could've limited it to NPC matches since NPC's are a thing anyway. Also the whole point of "All Open" ruins any chance of getting high scores from skill because you are more likely than not to end in a draw if your opponent isn't using a vastly inferior deck (aka you aren't winning because of skills) or being unable to do math. The failure of the tournament is two-fold right now. All Open and the ability to just win-trade to victory.

Win trading is a player thing. It's not SE's fault that people trade things so that everyone they participate with can have a chance at whatever prize is being offered. If SE did manage to figure out some way to prevent win trading from happening, it would have to effect even the player vs player matches...
And here's a note, I trade wins with friends because a group of us don't like TT. We still want points for Gold Saucer and TT is just another way to do it. So we trade the wins and get what we need from it.
In the tournament, if there's a way that people can profit from it, it will be found. Some people want the gameplay element of the tournament like OP and others just want the goods.
Making an easily exploitable system is SE's fault, yes. Saying it's a "player thing", suggesting that if not for those awful, awful players we wouldn't have this situation is ABSURD. As a developer of an MMO, SE should have more sense than to make things that are easily cheated. You don't make tournaments in the real world where people pick who they play against. It's stupid. The flaws are numerous and obvious.Win trading is a player thing. If you want, go build a society on the "honor system" and let me know how it works out. Be sure to blame the people and not the system when it fails horrifically.

If you'll remember, they also didn't want the eternity bands being sold player to player and put people on an honor system and people still sold them. I stand by what I say, if someone can profit, someone will do so. SE should have built around that aspect.
Yes, god forbid a tournament be designed to function in a competitive fashion, thereby depriving you of an entire weekly lottery's worth of MGP for functionally free and an item for an activity you don't even like. It's not like there are people who wanted to play the game and feel like they were being rewarded for their skills or dedication or anything. Let's all just play Gil Farming Contest XIV Online. That sounds fun!
