Is Novus really worth it?

I'm currently at the same stage myself and I'm finding it quite confusing,not to mention those mb prices on certain materia >.<
As a smn which materia rank should I be looking at melding ? I've read that it's acc>>crit>>det and spell speed is a no no

Just don't get desperate. I seen a BRD go the minimum, putting all stats on his bow, including Piety, Spell speed, etc. Hus motive was to just get the Novus. However, he now has Zeta with those mage stats still.

I am speechless on why someone would keep stats or even add them in the first place even if it was just to finish Novus

I have put in 20 million on materia for my relic, 14 million failed. and Im still only 30/31 det 40/44 Crit
It wasn't worth it for me at all. I never quit when I want to do something, like getting best stats. But for like my first time I quit that stupid thing because losing 12 det IV in a row made me sad

I don't mind rng much, I would much rather farm 100 atma if they removed the possibility of failing and losing materia. But when rng makes you lose that much gil, then it's so stupid

spell speed as a sMN isn't important at all, really, it hurts the class. Smn's main source of damage is the dots and pet, neither of which are affected by spell speed. Det is pure damage increase, and acc is to help with meeting melee caps for your pet. If you're going to stack spell speed, should maybe want to put on some piety, although the recent changes might have fixed most of the mp problems smn has with the speed stacked ironworks

...what? This is so wrong. SMN is det and crit, not spell speed and crit. Det and crit affect the dots. A great money-save combo would be 25 Acc Det and Crit since smn has to meet melee acc cap for pet.

Finish asap and move on to next step restating is easy later. Accuracy is usually pretty helpful on the weapon as you won't have to get all the WoD drops to make up your acc cap. Crit and det next. You can stay away from the expensive iv s for now.

I wasn't as unlucky as you but I can somewhat relate. I had 14 failed tier 4 materia just not in a row. Novus stage cost me about 15m. This is perhaps a bit more costly than it should be in my opinion but I just spiritbonded when I needed to and eventually I got there. I had all the materia before I had the alexandrite so it wasn't that big of a deal. I'm back up to 7m gil now. Money isn't hard to get in this game. It was pretty frustrating at the time though.

As to OP's question of whether it's worth it to do Novus: not if you're going to stop there obviously but you need Novus to get Nexus etc. If you can regularly clear T13 I'd just go with that weapon but if you aren't clearing or can't clear right now or your weapon just isn't dropping, relic is a great alternative. You also have to figure in whether or not you care about achievements (there's 1 for each stage of relic) and if you want to have the experience or complete all the quests. Mostly I think relic is for completionists, which I definitely am. I've done 2 relics now and will probably stop there. Mostly it is the cost of Novus that would dissuade me from trying to get more.

Thank you to all who answered my query regarding novus stage. Right now I'm just concerntrating on obtaining the 75 Alex's that are needed.
