Honestly, unless you're on FCOB you shouldn't worry too much. As a BLM who loves to pull hate (call me an ass) I always tell my tanks that if I pull I'll either kill it or die trying and to not waste their efforts in competing with me. DPS who have that ability usually have the ability to take care of whatever they pulled agro on. I know not everyone will agree with doing this tactic but it works for us and is fun to test my abilities. Then again, most of my tanks, I can't pull agro after they've established it and they're not always as well geared..... I think you've had some bad runs. But I do agree that waiting/grinding stinks but I don't want it to be so easy I have nothing to do either.

As both a dps and a tank, I tend to follow this rule as well, given how potent the newer tier of gear is. This is especially true though, as someone who mains a monk, since most tanks I party with, tend to only focus their aggro efforts just enough so that it doesn't aggro onto the black mage. Meaning anything I hit stacks aggro against me very quickly at least half of the time. It's hard to call someone who does this an ass, when it becomes an unavoidable occurrence now days.
