    Thanks everyone.
Most people just farm Shiva X at this point for i115 or get the i100 weapon for Soldiery and then upgrade it to i110 with a sands from ST. 100000x easier than the relic grind. By the time most would complete it anyway the expansion will be out and we will be looking at a new tomes set and i130 weaps that make the relic look like a Nerf toy.

Thanks so much for the response, and you make a very valid point. This close to Expansion time, I suppose it would be kind of a futile rush on my part to go for a full Ninja Relic weapon. Looks like it's time to unlock the rest of those EX Primals and start farming Shiva. About the "sands from ST"....what exactly is that? I've seen a few posts mention it before, but was never really clear on what they meant. I used to farm ST for gear religiously when it was the new thing, but never noticed any sands drop. Is this a new thing? Thanks again in advance!

Not a new thing. Sands, UATs, and Oils drop from the last two bosses in the raid. You will need 1 UAT per job for the i110 weapon + a sand. Sands are used to upgrade Sol gear from i100 -> i110. Oils are used to upgrade accessories from i100 -> i110.

I choked down the book grind ok whatever, I was helping FC mates anyway. But the materia crap is nothing more than a lazy, piss poor design way to bleed gil from the economy. Zero fun, zero challenge. It's just a money sink. I have no desire to take this any further especially since it is 100x easier to get a better weapon in other ways.
This. THIS a million times - I've heard almost these same exact words from so many people, and it should be such the biggest godsdamned critical warning sign for the devs... Yet somehow it doesn't seem like it is. :/ I mean, for sanity's sake, when a given part of your game makes people not want to play your game??? Like??? How much worse can it get???

Also totally agree that the materia part is very poor design, but then, pretty much all stages beyond actually getting the weapon are.

PLEASE REMOVE THE CHARACTER LIMIT THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

I also dislike the work/reward for the quest series as well. Players put in hours upon hours of work into these weapons and yet, from one stage to the next, the difference is so minimal that it doesnt really seem worth it.

This goes hand in hand with what I said in the other thread. A lot of the steps always feel like the "final step" of sorts. Like people didn't really have a problem with Novus' 75 alexendrite/materia requirement when it was the final step and seeing someone with HA was a rare occurance. Now novus is quite literally just another stepping stone that's challenged by true ice weapons, while still requiring the same 75 alexendrites. Same with Atma and Nexus before the nerf. You can't really "nerf" Novus due to the materia requirement, thats more of a player/server dependent thing (unless you want to just meld whatever for a non-optimal weapon...which would defeat half the purpose of the relic questline).

I think one key problem was the lack of challenge in Zodiac Questing. Relic = beat all three Primal HM, made the community scream TITAN! Next it was grind level-up FATEs.... Didn't bother to add any end game centered FATE for people with i80 gear. Next was kill level 45 mobs and completle i60 dungeons with i100 weapon. Then materia melding, only thing I did like because players could customize their weapon, though limited by what the materia system has. Light.... Yea another complete DF over and over again.

Never did the quest have you gather items from Primal EX, Coil, or even CT. Never added high level FATEs that end game player would want to do. They could have added to the beastman strong hold with mobs that would challenge someone with i100. It was so casual that even casual players (me) found it tedious and boring.

P.S. They went over board with the glow effect

The relic has always had the goal of being time consuming investment and each step further expands on this. It's not for everyone nor is it intended for everyone and the sooner people accept that, the more they can enjoy the game (by moving on to something else). The relic is not mandatory for ANYTHING.
There's always other, easier options that provide you with that close to instant weapon gratification some people seem to desire. The relic will not and should not EVER satisfy that demand. And certainly not ever since they made you able to customize its secondary stats. I say this as someone that's done two relics now, one before all the nerfs and one after.
