Oh yeah no, don't expect anyone to do anything in DF.
Never....Why you guys think I'm still in limbo with T5 for almost 2 years?
[I actually do T5 every now and then so it's not as bad as I am making it lol.]

No one is saying watching a video replaces hands on experience but it does help get a jump start if you actually pay attention to it. I mean, knowing what a mechanic does conceptually is not the same as seeing it but it does have value to it. Also outside of EX primals and coil, the fights are so non complex and mechanics very forgivable, watching fights for those probably isn't worth the effort. Complex fights like T9, it will help the learning curve by seeing the mechanic. You still may not want to watch the video or read the guide which is your choice but that's not because you learn better without them and no they do not wholy replace real experience.
DF I just don't expect much... Going in there with expectations is a recipie for dissappoinent. I also don't DF much and if I do, well I know what I'm getting in to. I only queue up if im willing to spend time with people who might not know the content. Sometimes I am, sometimes I'm not.
I'll be honest, I didn't read any posts between the OP's and mine. Lol, but I didn't really have to. Pi has a point, and the fact that people need to enjoy their virgin experience in game is a pretty special thing. In fact, on the Cactuar server, I've built an entire Free Company around involving individuals in gameplay (Dungeons, primals, extreme fights, coil 1 / 2) and provide a friendly environment where people are chill enough to let people watch Cut-scenes, and we definitely do a couple wipes of a fight for new people to help them learn their own method of the fight.
After a couple wipes, we go ahead and give a little bit more detailed explaining, but very rarely have we suggested a player watch a video on a fight unless it's a last-minute drop-in.
I agree 110% with the original poster, and everyone else who thinks that their time is too important to spend with new players should just preform their groups, or chill the hell out.
Good luck, Pi!

When my FC does anything new. We try to do it blind 1st or mostly blind. It's a lot of fun. We working on turn 9 and after 2 rounds we made it to phase 3. Only 2 people had cleared it before. And would explain elements after we got to them.
You DO realize that the crux of this argument is pretty much always about this in DF right? RIGHT? Common sense!
You have an issue with something in DF, feel free to leave and requeue. No one's going to miss you.
Oh so I should care about their experience but they shouldn't care about mine? That's cool.
It's funny, because since patch 2.5 I've done all the new expert dungeons blind, and you know what. I had a really good time.
You know what I absolutely hate? When people assume that all players know and understand online guides. I've tried understanding them in many an MMORPG, and most of the time the writer or person doing the video doesn't give the basics or explain what certain words are that I've never heard so naturally don't understand. I also hate when people assume that everyone learns how to play their class the same way. I am one of those people who excel at a hands on approach, and when someone shows me in-game I get it very quickly.
When I try and figure out class builds or dungeon/raid mechanics through online guides and videos... I don't usually get it.

Remember when MMOs didn't have quest trackers, and you had to go look up on some website to see where to go and what to do for a quest? But now we have quest trackers that mark your map so you don't need to do stuff outside of the game to play the game.
It might be nice to have a way to learn fights inside the game, too.
The reason I watch videos first is mostly for myself. It makes it smoother when I don't have to worry about teammates yelling their lungs out.
Also, the guides don't always match how people ingame actually do it. Either because there are several ways to do a fight, with several tactics floating around, or because the guide is outdated. You know what I absolutely hate?
