I'll never understand why people will choose to buy a game through Steam when it is available steam free.

Look! Fresh meat.
For example because it is 3 times cheaper there, than directly from SE? It costs 19.99 euro on SE store, but just about 7 euro (converted from local currency) on steam.
I have a question. If I have game bought from SE, and I want to purchase expansion on steam, will I be able to use my existing character there?
The Steam version is the exact same as the PC version, except it requires Steam to launch. So yes, just log in like normal and everything will be there. For example because it is 3 times cheaper there, than directly from SE? Edit: Didn't see you said expansion. View my next post.

Oh the expansion will be on "steam" alright. With everyone hammering the login server, errors and whatnot, players will be in steaming rage. Did i do this right?![]()

I plan to unwisely take time off work for day 1 so that I can come here and complain in a rage-fueled haze about the fact that this game has a healthy population of players that had the same idea!

From my understanding of other games, if you buy the game prime separate from an expansion and such, they won't work at all. The Sims being an example. I know someone that bought the main game and then bought one of the expansions separate on Steam and they couldn't use the expansion with the main game. I don't know about MMOs though. For example because it is 3 times cheaper there, than directly from SE? It costs 19.99 euro on SE store, but just about 7 euro (converted from local currency) on steam.

That's going to be based on how FFXIV does expansions. For example, World of Warcraft installs ALL the game content, including expansions, whether you own them or not. If FFXIV does the same thing, then all you are purchasing on Steam is a license to play, and the game data is going to be installed regardless of where you get it.From my understanding of other games, if you buy the game prime separate from an expansion and such, they won't work at all. If on the other hand, they do it like FFXI, where the data for each expansion was installed only after you purchased it, then it would not work...at least not right off the bat. Some clever moving around of files could allow it too.
