SCH Going WHM - Want tips on how WHM dps works

I know this might sound really, really dumb, but I want to know before my WHM hits 50 so that I do it right.

I got my SCH to 50 months ago (sometime last summer) and it's been my main since, so I've been spoiled by Aetherflow and quick DoTing and Lustrate and etc.

So, I'm kind of terrified of going from SCH to WHM...No aetherflow, and only two DoTs (or are there more?). What exactly is the extent of WHM dps? SCH you turn Cleric on, DoT and shadow flare, turn it off and heal. Is it the same for WHM? Cleric stance, DoT, throw in a couple stones*, turn it off and go back to healing?

    * ? I see some WHMs do it...But I also only see some SCHs DoT when there's no damage being done to the party, nor any to prepare for, nor any reason to not speed up dps

Mostly, I'm asking about single boss fights. I see in big trash pulls some WHMs will run in and start Holying if the trash isn't hard hitting. I don't see it on boss fights, probably for obvious reasons (it stuns, right? Using holy for no reason would make the boss immune when you actually need to stun something, and it probably eats MP.)

The thought of just standing around waiting to heal makes me uncomfortable. I absolutely hate just standing around, it makes me feel like I'm just being useless if there's nothing to heal or prepare for coming anytime soon. If that's exactly what I should be doing, then do tell me to. I want to be the best WHM I can be when I get to 50.

It really is that simple for single target: dots up, spam Stone IIs, reapply dots. (Also Fluid Aura on cooldown if the mob is knockback-resistant).

The reason you don't see Holy on single target is that it's not worth the 30 potency increase over Stone II when you account in for the MP-usage as well (also the 2.5s vs. 3s casting times). On trash pulls, you have the stunning effect as well as the fact it will hit more enemies, hence it's a no-brainer to cast Holy.

Obviously, I don't sit there and spam Stone/Stone II or something, due to MP limits, so what exactly is the extent of WHM dps?
It doesn't work any differently than SCH stance dancing. Divine seal + regen will take care of most things, it's like a WHM fairy. I am in Cleric Stance more than I am not outside of Coil/some EX primals. If you use Shroud of Saints regularly (with a competent tank, there are very few reasons to save it and the cooldown isn't that long) you'll have no mana problems dpsing, even without atherflow.

More than that, it just drains your MP for nothing. You can DPS for a much longer time with Stone II and you'll end up doing more damage. I usually don't Holy if there are less than 3 mobs, and when there are 3, I just use it three times for the stuns and then Dot/Stone II.

Oh, okay. I haven't done a dungeon since before I got Shroud, so it felt like I was wasting MP that took too long to get back if I used Stone II a lot. That dungeon was also Brayflox, and the dps ate every single bit of avoidable damage they could, so I didn't have much MP anyways. I haven't gotten to use Shroud a whole lot yet, so I shouldn't have worded that statement ("Obviously I don't blahblahblah") that way. xD

Thank you for your help. c:

Oh, Brayflox. The first time I did it it was a nightmare! I kept running out of mana, I totally understand why you were worried. Remember to take advantage of Freecure too when it procs! I didn't understand how great it was until I got to Brayflox xD

Doing low level dungeons as a WHM is rather challenging if your party is not very skilled. You'll find your self out of MP often as cure 2 is all you can spam to keep everyoner healed.

Use Divine Seal as often as possible and if you believe the fight will take a while then try using Shroud at around 70% MP.
