Well, the idea behind this is the following :

If you try to catch hard fishes with lot of escape (say Neptodragon) that do not require mooching, a high perception would for sure increase the number of HQ Neptodragon. By lowering your perception, you would hook smaller Neptodragon and increase the chance you have to land it.

    This would work if :

    - perception increase size of fishes (which is the case)
    - perception does not increase the chance to hook a big fish, independently of the size (donno if it is the case)
    - HQ fishes are harder to land than NQ fishes (donno if it is the case... in case of "get away" message, there is no clue of the fish was HQ or not)

Maybe some of you have hints about these two latter points ?

For any fish that require mooching (and even more for double mooching), you want, of course, have the maximum perception possible. That's what I currently have (besides Lucis, I'm 9/30 now).

I caught bigger fish with lower perception

I'm pretty sure the game only differs between HQ and NQ and gives the caught fish a rdm size number dependig on this
you have a higher chance to land HQ fish with more perception, but perception does not increase the size of NQ fish to "make them HQ"

Well, I noted while farming Giant Clams that HQ ones are always > 125 ilms, while NQ can be lower than 100 ilms. So in mean, more HQ mean bigger fishes. Does not really matter if the size comes first or after the HQ decision.

I should edit my post and states :

    - perception increase HQ chance (and we dont care for most fishes besides mooching)

What I wonder is if perception increase the rate of big fishes. But that would require thousands of cast to have a good statistic on 1 fish. Maybe someone did it, I wont ;-)
I also wonder if HQ fishes are harder to land than NQ fishes... but I dont see any way of testing this...
