How does SE break a tie on loot rolls?

I actually had some bs like this today. Doing expert, gear drops, I greed an 89. Everyone else rolls, the healer gets the gear...with an 89 and somehow it said I rolled a 30 then, which in the loot pool, it showed 89 for me. So either it can change your roll or someone's using a certain something against ToS.

It's easy. You won't really roll 99 both, you will roll 99.956 and the other one will roll 99.147 and the game will simply show 99 for both roller.

If the highest roll is duplicated, the loot goes to the one that rolled first between the two. It was like that in XI its like that here in XIV.

I have never seen duplicate rolls, even on shared chests in CT/ST/WoD with 24 people rolling on a minion. Whenever someone draws a number, that number is removed from the pool so it can't be drawn again. This is comparable to putting 99 slips of paper labelled 1 to 99 in a hat, and putting away the slips that are drawn by each person (rather than putting them back in the hat for the next draw).

If 2 people roll lets say 50, both players will be re rolled again but the players will not know about the re roll until they check the logs. UNLESS the person is suddenly unable to gain the item (aka gaining another item and there inventory becomes full) then your default rolls will be accepted.

yep, if it keeps tieing (which is a 1 in 200 chance to become a 1 in 400 to tie twice 1 in 800 for three times,)
it just keeps going with random numbers you will never see the re-roll however you will just see the final result.

This information is by memory as I am sure I read it a long time ago, I did look for source but I can't find it/it might have been patched differently at some point.

Its a priority system. Basically if you and I roll against the item - If you roll a 99 THEN I roll a 99 my roll will actually come up as a 98 (and we never know that it was actually a 99).
