No, we don't enter the 8th umbral era

Way even think that? The hole end of the world crap was just them killing off a dead game to restart it. 3.0 is not a restart it is a add on to a grate game.
Well to be fair, Eorzea has seen 7 calamities. Not 1, not 2, but 7. They always seem to come, so to say we wont have another is a bit hasty.
That said, we probably wont see one just yet anyway, and might not for a while. We just semi recently went from the astral cycle to umbral, so who knows for sure other than the Devs?
They aren't shutting the game down and completely remaking it from scratch again. So no. The calamity was just the cover story given so that they had a lore reason to remake everything.
Very true, but they tend to be hundreds of years apart. Eorzea probably won't have another while our character lives. Unless echo makes us immortal anyway.
Umbral eras tend to last less time than Astral eras, mostly because Umbral eras have to be preceded by pretty dire circumstances (the whole allagan/xande thing, and bahamut. Come to think of it the Allagans may be directly or indirectly responsible for at least 3 umbral eras.)
Most of our actions in coming content will probably revolve around staving off threats to start a new Umbral era.
That's very possible. It's also possible we'll stop events that never would have been able to start an Umbral Era as well.Umbral eras tend to last less time than Astral eras, mostly because Umbral eras have to be preceded by pretty dire circumstances (the whole allagan/xande thing, and bahamut. *Getting into some slight lore thinking out loud here.*
I think the point stands though, even if its through our own actions, that we won't see another Umbral era again. The time it takes for the lands aether to fully recover and then decline is a part of the Umbral/Astral boom bust cycle. Granted, we got to an Astral era way faster than normal due to the actions of Louisoix at the end of 1.0. I don't know if he was able to fix it enough for another Umbral to come so soon though. After all, Umbral cycles are started off due to the abuse of Aether. The one at the end of 1.0 was caused by Bahamut sucking Aether dry from the land. Is it possible to start another cycle without prodigious amounts of Aether to suck dry? Can you even initiate an action that could cause an Umbral era without at least a minimum amount of Aether available? For example spells like Ultima require Aether to cast and therefore some sort of minimum amount of Aether is required. Until the land recovers sufficiently the spell can't even be cast to cause problems. It's possible that Umbral causing events can't even occur until the Aether recovers enough meaning it's potentially impossible for quite some time.
I will say that items like Tupsimati are certainly loop holes. There could be some artifact that can force it out of the land regardless of the ambient Aether. If it is truly like FF7 and the life stream then there is plenty of Aether underneath our feet for the taking.

I vaguely recall some Eorzea shattering (not literally) event being mentioned for the end of the 2.xx cycle though. Maybe it's political? I dunno. Just some massive change incoming.
Personally I've not even gotten up to the story Shiva fight yet though, so I don't even know what's happening now, let alone at expansion pack time, but I did think I'd seen such a comment in one of the Fan Fests or a Live Letter or something...
Poop is gonna hit the fan between 2.5 and 3.0, but not on the same scale as Dalamud falling. Ergo, there's no reason our gear and materia will be trashed for the expansion considering that the story is continuing rather than taking a 5 year break and starting anew.
