    I feel like I'm one of the few SMN's who doesn't mind the job as it is. Sure it's not as flashy as the FFXI version that I had envisioned when starting the game, but after so many months of using it as my main class, I've grown fond of how it plays. Of course I'm looking forward to the future of the class, especially the use of new Egi's, but I wouldn't necessarily say I'm hoping for or holding my breath for a complete re-do or overhaul of the class.

    Take notes Ryu_Hyabusaa. This guy here is a little different as he at least invested time in playing the job.

    And while I respect his opinion as well as his preference, I respectfully disagree and this is why.

    This is how I currently view SMN: Just think as if SE added Thief and threw it into the Rogue class and gave it Steal, Pilfer Gil, Something conniving like a sleep ability, and two other skills... I can pretty much say Thief would get the same complaints that SMN is currently getting due to its lazy design... Its DPS is a separate issue and is arguably debatable, unless compared with BLM (which imho should not out-damage something that conjures ethereal beings that is supposed to do massive destructive damage, but eh)...

    You sound like you want the class to be either black mage with a summoner skin, we'll reskin flare as the summon, or a full on pet class. I have a few simple questions for you.

    what does the player do in the mean time?

    As a spell casting nuke type, we summon the primal, it deals its damage and then what? Are the summon spells on 2.5 second cooldown? That would make their potency rather low and put a strain on the hardware to constantly draw the primal, possibly lagging out your teammates who's computers also have to constantly draw the primal. Or are they on longer cooldowns and we go right back to my first question, what does the play do in between summons?

    As a pet class, how much control does the player have over the pet? And what is the player doing while the pet does its thing? The pet's dishing its damage and the player is standing around doing nothing? Or is the pet system dumbed down so the pet is an auto attack with higher damage? Which comes back to what is the player doing all this time?

    I can honestly say I've never thought about it like that, and can definitely see where you're coming from.

    Summoner does have a few issues; Bad mana regeneration/pool making us lose dps to use energy drain or having bard sing mage ballad, losing 20% dps. Spell speed hurts summoner whereas helps black mage. there are a few others but I just want to keep it simple as an example.

    When I learned summoner was coming, it was so much THIS but expanded for the new MMO age, however I did expect they'd have a healing spell. For an MMO, XI made Summoner the only way it SHOULD HAVE BEEN. The player commanding their summon to enact its abilities. New Summoner spells: Command 1-3 1 is buff/debuff dpending on summon, 2 is single target, 3 is aoe; Enkindle last spell unknow
