Most of the gear in this game is butt ugly, so I just don't care. FFXI had the same issue for the most part, things looked ridiculous.

I got the Odin set from his HM fight, I glamour that onto everything I can. Nothing like wearing plate on any DoW. *Edginess intensifies*

I only recently got into glamouring myself, really didn't care at first what i looked like until i began pvp'ing. Damn them sets are nice (except i100+ dom wtf happened there), working hard each day to get my rank up asap, the downside however is each set is one job only.
Starting to spend more and more, making a primal weapon this week at a cost of 5mil just for my blm xD

i regreted putting my augemented cashmere robe hq on i made...really dont like it anymore and its sat at 1% sb...

I've glamoured by main (BLM) and alt (WHM) to be as dingy and unflashy as possible. Been rocking the moth-eaten coatee w/ raptor skin boots on the former. And the mildewy ensemble from Stone Vigil for the WHM for close to six months now.

I only really use glamours if I find a special look that I really like... which is rare at the moment. Also as a SMN playing from launch I've worn almost every cloth set in the game at one point or another so I'm already bored of most of the old alternative looks. I am quite looking forward to being able to glamour my machinist in 3.0 though... lots of awesome pieces of equipment that suit them.

Imo i know most ppl were like
No glamouring till 50 and have broken the i100 thresh hold.
Cuz its pointless to glamour ur gear if ur just going to replace it the next day ( waste of gil/ time and resources ).
Usually more ppl sitting at the i110+ ( got some ironwork gear or dreadwyrm ) tend to glamour more often than ppl at the i90/ i100 sol gear range now a days.

But yea the "idc that much " / " too lazy to coordinate a look " reason is probably the one most ppl go with overall.

I probably will stop glamouring my body once we get our AF2 in 3.0 as i will probs be on the omg AF2 gear hype train.
It might look dumb or maybe it'll look smexi, we'll have to wait and see
