Why not just adopt the WoW model of LFR loot.
When a "chest" is opened, everyone automatically rolls independent of each other against a predefined threshold. If you roll higher, you are guaranteed a piece of gear out of the loot table which your current class can use. If you roll lower, you get some gil. In an extreme cases all 8 players can each get a piece out of the same chest, or all 8 get only gil.
It does mean that you can no longer get those unwanted pieces for your other classes, but from my experience in the WoW LFR, I rather like this trade-off.
