meh might as well say all of the above is possible, to keep my response short, since if they follow a lvl 1 to 60 storyline then their plenty of room for all those things to fit in.

Though I would question the personality of our Job Trainer.

It would be a bit fun if our Job trainer had a little Mad Scientist personality to it.

Then comes the question of our Job Rival, if we get a Machinist Job Rival.

The machines you'll get to use do look like they are powered by ceruleum which would point to either garlond ironworks or another garlean engineer.

Cids dad comes back from the dead and Cid gets really happy and then after he infuses his soul into the Machinist job crystal Cid says you're his father and you cry.

That would be a interesting twist in the Machinist Job Storyline.

Having our Machinist Mentor remain unknown by name and use a alias throughout level 1 to level 55 Job Quests and when another Major NPC to the Machinist job story ask us where we learned our Machinist skills we then explain this mysterious person taught us. Then at the end of Machinist Job question in lvl 60 we finally get to meet up with Cid in the Job Storyline after level through 1 to 60 but only to stop this mysterious person from activating a dangerous device. At the end of the lvl 60 Job quest the mysterious person then reveals he is the ghost of Cid's dad, or at least a phantom born form Cid's father regrets during the final moments of his life, and at that final moment this phantom tells Cid his fathers final words and a bunch of other feel train moments ending with a final good bye and how he is free from his obsession and can finally find peace leaving behind only a Machinist Soulstone that Cid's father once used.

(but this is all just a assumption and my imagination going wild . I'm not joking a plot twist that our mentor was actually a phantom of Cid's father does sound interesting.)

Though I do hope the Job story proves to be a interesting one. Though the craziest ideal I can think up is if the ending of Machinist Job storyline was to prevent our Machinist Job Rival from activating a Proto-Ultima Weapon he or she created or found. Even more crazy if we have to fight a Proto-Ultima Weapon as the Final boss of the Machinist Job Storyline in a Solo Instance Job Fight.
