PVP Variety - and the lack of it.

    Hey guys!

firstly may I state I know that this issue has been brushed upon too and I know it is far more complicated than just creating new modes. So I will make my post simple. I'll make comparison to other games and their popular PVP systems.

Currently in FFXIV it feels like PVP is just an additional system that remains touched by few and not witness by the many. I believe the reason for this is accessibility and variety. Which to some may be a boon but to the MMO market is the equivalent of keeping all your good eggs in one basket without taking any risks in pleasing a new player base - or attract players from other games to enjoy a pvp system.

    1. Maps
The game needs more Maps and more PVP varieties. I understand it takes a lot of work to create balanced and fair maps for three parties compared to two but this has been done before in other games namely Guild wars with world verses world. Some game modes on -separate- maps that are a standard in other MMO games are..
    - Capture the flag
    - Resource control
    - Slaughter (Present, but needs a smaller map with more LOS options)
    - Base Destroy - Destroy the enemies encampment.

    Alternative Leveling systems
In other games PVP is an alternate way of leveling any character from level 15 onwards. With rewards and gear that will help you do both PVE and PVP content and survive against your fellows every few levels much like grand company gear. This gear doesn't need to look any different from PVE gear, its just serving a purpose until the player can get to level cap.

    Morale:
Morale, make it matter. There is currently no reason for the stat on gear for the more popular styles of PVP (being frontlines). Why are people bothering farming for the PVP gear other than for glamors when it means nothing in any pvp style? making Morale matter would mean players would need to think on strategy and not zerg to win.

...You don't realize that, depending on the build sought, PvP gear might have far better itemization than PvE gear? and that Morale actually does have an effect?

Morale has no effect in frontlines.

Yes, it does. While it may only be a around 3 or 4 points per piece at most it still does have an effect. I can even explain the rules of how it works in this thread along with BiS equipment sets that have at least 1 or 2 PvP pieces because of their itemization.

In i80 Frontlines the Lionsmane Cuirass, normally +26 Crit +27 Det, syncs to +29 Crit +21 Det.

I would LOVE for this to happen. If PvP had different level brackets and EXP is earned as rewards, I would totally use this way to level over dungeons and fate spams.

Level 30 and level 40 Wolf's Den are like this, but they kind of died out as higher level players did not like having their skills limited.

I would love this too and would even level an alt if I could but as it stands now the community is more interested in hunts: staring guildwork. gotta get that carbontwine so you can be il130 before you enter expert roulette.

PvP is, and will always be, "an additional" feature to an FF game. It was always be a somewhat backseat feature for the game. Unless it were a PvP intended FF game (as in the entire point of the game existing involves PvP, which would be a first for the series), this is to be expected.

It was my favored way of leveling up in SWTOR. Huttball... omg, the twinks and the mayhem. Low level twinks dealt MASSIVE damage, but lacked a lot of higher level abilities (so it was a tradeoff, though generally speaking the damage trade was usually better overall). All characters from... 10? to 49 were in the same games, everyone was just amplified in power/stats to equate a lv50 based on the gear they had. Which is why twinks were so powerful, but generally not THAT overpowering from everyone else. It'd be sooooooo fun to see such a system here.

When the game first started, the duty finder list was about a 1/10 of what it is just now. Not much variety at all. I'm sure we'll get variety in time. I'm worried more about quality and originality. When will they be "safe" enough to stop following the tried and true and start experimenting and Creating?

The problem with the current system is 1 the restrictions in wolves den and 2 the reward/time in the 2 secure modes and 3 the lack of choice and visibility to see who is currently waiting in the ques. No one like randomly having to wait 20 mins without ANY indication of what they're actually waiting for. These issues must be fixed before they add new PvP content.
