Not sure what problems you have with AMD Crossfire, but always try the latest drivers and if you have issues, try AMD support forums as well.
As for DX11 Crossfire support... only SE and/or AMD can answer if that's on the way.
I don't use AMD myself so haven't checked their drivers at all for any mention of it.

I really hope they would fix pixels being visible (grass trees gear ears~etc) ~ DX11 will make things better but not sure about pixels x) , will run ffxiv with nvidia surround & i'm happy to hear that frame rates will be much better!

SLI is really overkill for this game. I'm getting 80-100fps with a single 7970 ghz edition -- which is a pretty old card now. 60~ fps during hunts. Fast cpu and ram (mine is: i7 4790k/2400mhz DDR3) make more of a difference than the graphics card -- which is usually the case for all MMOs.

Of course, we need to wait and see how the dx11 client really performs before knowing for sure whether sli really is needed or not.

Play at a higher resolution, you won't see the pixels

    Yeah I'm playing with SLI 970 @ 3840x2160
@1080 i get up to 300fps in some situations
@1440 I get up to 200fps in some situations
    @4k i get around 80-100
Thats when the transparent lighting bug doesn't kick you in the face. (i'm currently in contact with a Nvidia Employee who is trying to fix the issue)

Alot of people don't play at 1080 anymore, so it's not overkill.

If people can afford to acquire more powerful hardware, there is no overkill, you pay for the performance, especially since both AMD and Nvidia now support downsampling from the drivers, native 1080 p screen, well up that to 1440p or 4K, this is the reason why you pay for such hardware in the first place.

    I'm playing @1440p AH-IPS monitor ~

    x2 GTX970 SLI

You still see pixels ~ w ~; not always sure but sometimes which kills immersion in game, hope DX11 might help.

With 970 SLI I'd reccomend you to DSR to 4k. ^_^

I recieved an update from Nvidia about the transparent lighting bug.

    Code:
Thanks for the update, I'll make sure to add these to the bug. To update, our lab was able to replicate the issue and the bug has been escalated to development to begin their investigation. Hopefully we can root cause the problem and get this resolved in a future driver update.
